“Food was good, but we weren't crazy about it”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2014

This was our first time eating here. It had been recommended by some family members. The quantity of food was good, but something we ate didn't agree with our sensitive stomachs. The service wasn't great, we had to look for our server a couple of times. We were there during the week, so it wasn't crowded.

“A Cut Above Most Mexican Restaurants!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2014

This was our second visit to Abuelo's, and the second time was as good as the first. We had booked a table for 6 and were seated at a great curved booth for 6 in the bar.

Our server, Dexter, was attentive and friendly, and the frozen margharitas were spectacular, as was the food. The tortilla chips were served with 3 sauces, and Dexter blended the 3 to a great mix with a kick! We had fajitas and they were fantastic, as were all the meals. In fact, the servings were so large that most of us couldn't finish our meals. Probably aided by the amount of tortilla chips we wolfed down first!!

I love Abuelo's. The food is great, the staff were fantastic both visits, and the ambience is really good. And the prices are very reasonable.

Not the only Mexican restaurant we patronize, but definitely the best.

“Good but not great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2014

Ate here while on golf trip based on TripAdvisor reviews. Service was very good, friendly attitude. Facility is quite nice, certainly not like most local Mex restaurants that use old pizza places and sort. Probably adds to price of food items too. Great selection of Mexican beer, even had Pacifico. Different varieties of salsa was great, chips were fresh, and queso dip was very good. I was really excited by the shrimp wrapped in bacon and stuffed with cheese that were grilled, and the main course had six of these. I tried them 'fajita' style, perhaps not the best choice. They continued to cook in the hot skillet and got a bit too done. Refried beans had sat under the heat lamp until crusty, but tasted ok. Flour tortilla were great as were the fresh fajita 'dressings'. Overall, pretty good but not great.

“Good Food/Ambiance”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2014

We were in the mood for Mexican food today so we decided on lunch at Abuelo's. This was our first time there and it looked very nice from the outside, We have been fooled before by the "Not all that glitters is gold" surprise. But this place was as good as it seemed from the outside,

Our server was available and efficient. The food arrived at our table in a timely way. The food was very good. And the price was about right. I had the soup and salad item off the lunch menu with shredded chicken. The chicken tortilla soup was very good and had a subtle kick that made it interesting. The salad, however, was surprisingly delicious. Every component of the salad was individually excellent. Needless to say I recommend it. My wife had the enchilada and taco combination. She thoroughly enjoyed it - especially the enchilada. Definitely a do again.

“Awesome food and atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2014

We LOVE Abuelo's, and try to get there as often as possible when we are in Myrtle Beach, even though it is a good ways away from where we stay. The chips are so think and crisp, and you get three different sauces with them, including a green sauce. The menu has offerings that are different from most Mexican restaurants, and the grilled chicken with zucchini is great. The service has always been good. Bottom line - one of our all-time favorite restaurants.
