“Nice hotel at a very reasonable price, friendly staff.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2009

I stayed at the Microtel for an overnight stay with my family the night before we could get into our timeshare. We chose the Microtel because of the cost and convienient location next to the Outlet Mall. We stayed at the Microtel a couple years earlier and were surprised at how different the inside of the hotel was and how comfortable the new bedding was. We were told the hotel was remodeled in the previous summer and the breakfast area / lobby was expanded at that time. We were satisfied with our stay and would consider the Microtel for our next visit to Myrtle Beach.

Clean hotel. We were surprised to find a microwave and fridge in our room. Decent continental breakfast. Nice pool. Good location--easy access to beach life (about 6 miles). Staff was a little awkward. Being four college girls we were constantly being stared at by one of the staff members. While trying to enjoy breakfast we were being stared down--as if we didn't notice. Just a fair warning, but worth the good price.

Very poor experience. On arrival, was met by a desk clerk who was smoking at the front entrance. This is a daily event it appears. First floor room had a direct window view of a 6-8 foot fence about 3 feet from the window - fence was covered with green slime and mold. The fence tried to cover up 3 mobile homes in bad repair in a lot next to the microtel. Breakfast area - what a joke. Milk was lukewarm with no attempts to cool it - possible bacteria growth hazard. Orange juice was diluted with melted ice and tested as you would expect. Rooms don't supply hair dryers, small shampoo items that are typical now at most all motels. Room cleanliness was mediocre with toliet lacking basic cleaning. Room lighting is poor unless you open up the window curtains in daylight - see above comments for what this offers. This hotel is not the image I'm sure that Microtel desires. I will never stay at Microtel again and would advise the same to all friends. Anyone who would rate this motel high evidently doesn't travel much.

  • Liked — Locaton is good for shopping with an outlet mall nearby.
  • Disliked — Room view, breakfast area, smoking out front by the desk clerk, etc.

We knew the moment we walked into the dirty lobby that this hotel was horrible. The front desk lady was extremely rude and unhelpful. The smell of smoke consumed us as we stepped off the elevator on the third floor. Our room was dirty - burn marks on the sheets, hair on the bathroom floor, the shower was busted and water ran at all hours of the day. Housekeeping people were maniacs. Owner is unprofessional and unhelpful, walking casually into the lobby looking like a bum. This may be the cheapest hotel in Myrtle Beach, but for good reason. Spend the extra few dollars and go somewhere where you can feel safe.

Also staff DOES stalk you. Very creepy!

We stayed here last minute due to some travel plan changes. I liked the Hotel, the room was great the shower was better than some 5 star locations, but the walls are thin. We could hear the entire conversation of the family next to us. The screaming child at 3am was a bit much, but I attribute this to the generic disrespect people have for others when they stay at any hotel. Other than that the place was awesome. I would come back here, not my first choice, but I would come back. The location is of the main drag so this is good for some people but I like to be right down town.

Aside from being rude, staff members at this Microtel in Myrtle Beach misuse customer information. I wrote the manager of this establishment to inform him that a hotel employee at the Microtel Inns and Suites in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina was using customer contact information for personal gain and inappropriate use. The employee's name is Sybil and, unfortunately, I do not have a last name to give you to identify this person (avoid her). She was given contact information for the purpose of making reservations at this establishment. I only know that her cell phone number appears on our phone records repeatedly (a period of 6 months). She has left messages on our voice-mail informing us of her work schedule and extending an invitation to dinner and “whatever follows.” This has occurred as recently as a couple of weeks ago and we have not had any contact with the hotel for several months (since June to be exact)-just to give you an idea of how long this has been going on. This behavior is totally inappropriate and unacceptable.

I have traveled extensively and have stayed at some of the better establishments, and I am fully aware that the Microtel is not a 5 star luxury hotel (By the way do not have any great expectations of the facility- its below average at best). However, I do expect hotel employees to treat us with decency and respect our privacy. I have contacted management but have not yet received a response. If hotel employees are allowed to use home and cell phone numbers in this way, there is no telling what they will attempt with credit cards and other personal information. Fellow travelers consider yourself warned!!!!! Avoid this Microtel- employees are on a "violate privacy" rampage. I urge the parent company to do something to address the lack of professionalism and customer care that will ultimately destroy Microtel Inns and Suites, everywhere.

We recently stayed at the Microtel Inn and Suites in Myrtle Beach, SC. It was a great hotel!!! They have a beautiful lobby and the kids loved the pool.
The breakfast was wonderful as well. They even had hot waffles on the breakfast bar. We stayed in a suite. It was great, refrigerator, coffee maker, etc. Great location--located beside the Myrtle Beach Tanger Outlets and just a few minutes driving time to the beach. We will definatly stay there again.
