“Better than some of the reviews here.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

We visited Sandcastle Resort last weekend for a friend's wedding. Honestly, we a little concerned about staying here because of the reviews, but they weren't exactly accurate. Our room was clean and bug free. The showers were hot. The pool area was very nice, and the tiki bar was great. Yes, they do require a deposit for a hairdryer, but you'd get the deposit back when you return the hairdryer. Its that kind of practice that allows locations like Sandcastle to keep their rates low. My ONLY complaint was having to wait so long for the elevator - there's only 1. Other than that, we had a great weekend.

The afternoon staff was wonderful and very helpful, but the staff in the mornings were impolite and not helpful. We were wating in line to ask a question and they kept taking guests behind us! When I mentioned this they looked at me like I was crazy! There was no hot water the first morning, but they fixed it very quickly. We asked about the attached restaurant and if it served breakfast, which it did. But when we went over there they told us we couldn't eat there because we weren't part of some bus tour. When I told them I was staying at the hotel they said I could come back after nine, it was only seven!

The room was fine and the pool was nice, although the do not enforce the pool hours; there were kids swimming and yelling all night long in the pool.

The view and closeness to the ocean...priceless!

Room Tip: You need to stay facing the ocean or else it is not worth it.

We have stayed with the sandcastle at the pavilion in Myrtle Beach numerous times over the years. This year was the first year that we noticed that they are starting to show their age. Mainly they need a major cleaning overhaul and some painting, although new mattresses would be wonderful...the ones we slept on were terrible. Our ac unit was pulled away from the frame to expose the outside so that explains why it is still warm with the thermostat at 65 and how so many mosquitos got in the room! tv channels are at a minimum. I didn't have much problem getting wifi. The outside pool is very clean. But we noticed trash in the same place for a couple of days. All in all it is decent enough for the money spent as we are usually only in our room to sleep and shower, however this year I had gotten sick and spent a couple days inside hence why I noticed the tv channels!

Room Tip: we love a view so always want the south tower with a high room so we can look up and down the beach...

We booked a last minute get away, and still was able to get exactly what we needed! The motel is a little older, but was kept very clean. The staff was VERY helpful and very nice. Being right on the ocean was great. Pools were clean. The Pavillion is in walking distance. Great Place for Families.

Room Tip: Get a room on the lower floors, you can easily use the stairs and not have to wait for the elevator.

We checked in at 3pm. Man on duty was not very into customer service orientated. Never informed us that the elevators were going to be out of service from 10 to whenever being fixed on the following day. Would of been nice to be informed as one of our party for 4 was handicapped and could not use the stairs. We only found this info from one of the other customers by accidently overhearing what they were saying. This hotel is definitely not a 4 star hotel. Far from it. The beds were very poor quality. Woke up with more aches and pains than I went to sleep with.

The only positive thing about staying there was the view from our balcony and the access to the beach.

Our trip's intention was mostly to spend it doing things around the city and beach, so our room was only used for sleep. They were accommodating when we said our room had no wifi connection and the tv was broken. After the room switch the wifi continued to have a weak signal so internet connection was difficult to get. This hotel is close to the beach, the restaurants and the downtown square which was really important to us. It smells a bit in the hallways (which could also be to the hot weather); our room didn't have the smell and it seemed clean. The room is nothing extravagant but it does the job. It's an older hotel, so don't expect anything too modern. There was a microwave , a fridge, no hairdryer. Housekeeping did jobs inconsistently, but overall the hotel did what we wanted, provided us a comfortable place to sleep in while we spent our days on the beach and exploring the city. The italian restaurant connected to the hotel was very good. We didn't use the pool facilities but they seemed nice-indoor and outdoor pools and a lazy river. The beach beside the hotel is beautiful so that is where we spent our days.
