“Put this course on your play list”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2012

It’s called the Granddaddy and designed back in the 1920's by the first President of the PGA. The front nine was re-designed, but the back 9 is the original design. Club House is interesting and rumored to be the birthplace of Sports Illustrated.
Excellent staff and the course is kept in good condition. Only drawback is no range to warm up on.

“Loved the tradition”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2012 via mobile

Lot of history at the course. The course was in great shape , challenging, and the staff was super nice. The clubhouse had a room of memorabilia from the early years including the beginning of sports illustrated magazine. The old ballrooms are from the 1920's and were very nostalgic . Great value !

“Don't Miss This Course”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2012

Excellent course conditions, enjoyable layout, and a great staff. We enjoyed this club and will put it on our "must play" list for future visits. Be sure to book your tee time here before considering other neighboring courses. Well worth the greens fee.

“Not worth the premium”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2011

This was a quick golf trip in lieu of playing in the Member Guest at my club so we decided to play some upper scale courses that had been on the list for a long time. THE GRANDADDY has always been on the wish list because it's the oldest and because of some traditions I'd heard about. The Hot chowder on the first tee, the bagpipes. I didn't expect the bagpipes because it was off season, but on a cold morning I was looking forward to the hot chowder. NOTHING! There was no driving range, nothing to really warm one up. The first tee area was very crowded with too many carts to even park on the correct side of the road. There was no ceremony or anything to make the visit special! The course itself is a LONG and the guidance was not correct as the yardage is confusing. While not that long for a par 72 it is LONG for a par 70. The condition of the course and facilities was very good. But all in all NOT worth the premium. I enjoyed Carolina National much more for 60% less!
