Owner description: If you only see one show... this is the one! "Top Attraction in Myrtle Beach" according to CNBC! The Carolina Opry has won every major South Carolina tourism award including Most Outstanding Attraction and the prestigious Governor's Cup. And it's the only show that has been featured on NBC Nightly News, CNN, TNN, and USA Today, which called it "A Big Hit". The New York Post called it "A Hot Ticket".Entertainer and entrepreneur Calvin Gilmore launched The Carolina Opry on South Carolina's Grand Strand in 1986. His live music variety show features a cast of 36 of the nation's top singers, dancers, comedians and musicians in its own 2200-seat show palace with state-of-the-art sound and lighting and three giant video screens. The show, which is continually updated with new music and comedy, is two hours of high energy entertainment that blends humor and dancing with everything from rock 'n roll, Broadway and country to classic hits, pop melodies and gospel.Young and old are counted among its fans who are sure to include a performance in their visit to Myrtle Beach. In November and December the theater is transformed into a winter wonderland where the magic of the season comes alive in The Carolina Opry Christmas Special a wonderfully dazzling, jolly and sentimental musical celebration of America's best-loved holiday..

“The Carolina Opry Christmas Special”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

I took my family to see The Carolina Opry Christmas show this year and we all loved it. We also attended in 2011 and my mother purchased a CD of the show to listen to for years to come. It was a treat to listen to while decorating the tree! What a great family show full of classic Christmas songs and laughs.

“You must see this!”

We were recommended to see this and we were glad we did - it is an excellent evening even though we are not really country and western fans.

“The Good, the Not-So-Good and the Ugly....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

We took our grandkids (11 and 8) to this Christmas Show with great anticipation and excitement because of the marvelous reviews. One (of many) problems is the fact that we had also been to the Alabama Christmas Show last year and also the Christmas on Ice show the year before. So, we couldn't help but compare. First of all "The Good"...excellent talent (especially "All That" tap dancers...an art we don't often see these days! They were breathtaking!!! And a great tribute to our troops that brought tears to all. The "Not-So-Good" ... extrememly LOUD AND EARBUSTING... even our kids had their hands over their ears during different segments. As an aside...the price for one small popcorn and 3 small drinks - $14.00. Ouch! Now for the Ugly...THE COMIC!! Or should I say "non-comic". We felt he pushed the enveloped with his "gay apparell" remark and other remarks that were seemingly inappropriate for a show that touts "family intertaniment". Even the few times that he wasn't referring to sexual remarks, he wasn't even funny! This did not get lost on our grandkids! They often looked at us wtih furrowed brow, knowing that these "jokes" were inappropriate and the "unzipping" of a dancer's dress was totally unnecessary! For participants who claim to be "unashamedly" Christian should dump this guy! Our kids compare him to the "Elfie" of the Christmas on Ice ( 2010) and Ricky Mokel of Alabama Theater (2011) and they loved them! Anyway, on another downside...We found that song chosen for the ending, although inspirational and done well, was not the greatest for a Christmas show. Just sayin..... But theater decor beautiful so all in all, okay but wouldn't return.
