“metamorphus by night”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2007

During my family's stay at this property, we enjoyed the facilities by day. It was nice to wake up and sit out on the balcony drinking coffee while looking out at the ocean. The kids loved the lazy river and indoor pool. Although my husband and I preferred the outdoor pool. But upon our return in the evenings, it was like "spring break gone wild". Teenagers and college students were on the streets in droves. Traffic was horrendous. We had to fight the crowds/traffic to get back to the hotel. Guys on bikes roared up and down the streets to the wee hours of the morning. Not to mention our room was directly across from some club that played its music so incredibly loud, it sounded like our room was in the club. And all this on top of the fact that we always had to make a two block hike back to the hotel at night, since their parking left much to be desired.

Also the pool bar drinks were on the weak side and pricey. And the parking tag said that snacks were available at the bar, but they weren't. With the kids being by pool and beach all day, grilled items should be available for purchase.

Management should really consider building a couple of parking decks to accommodate their paying guest.

  • Liked — kids own room and oceanview with balcony
  • Disliked — parking and nightime traffic

We really enjoyed our stay at the Holiday Inn at the Pavillion. We have stayed a several Myrtle Beach hotels and this was the best yet.

We had an oceanfront efficiency room. The kitchen had a full-size refrigerator and stove, a full-size microwave over the stove, a nice set of pots and pans and some cabinet space. There was also coffee cups, plastic cups, plates and silverware for 4 people. Our main complaint with the kitchen was the lack of counter space. We hardly had room to even make a sandwich at the kitchen counter.

The rooms were nice. Most everything in the room looked new and the room did not have a typical beach smell. Aside from the occasional slamming door, our room was very quiet. We could not hear the people in the rooms next to us. The air conditioner worked great and our room was always comfortable.

The beds were very comfortable, the best we've had at a beach hotel. Our only complaint with the beds was that they do not change the sheets. We stayed for 6 nights and our sheets were not changed once. Also, the fitted sheets did not fit the mattress and if you turned over much during the night, the sheet came off the mattress. Luckily the mattress looked new.

All of the employees that we encountered, from the front desk to the maintenance workers, were polite and friendly. The room was always clean when we came back from the beach.

We really enjoyed the heated outdoor pool and the lazy river, which is also heated. The lazy river was only 3 feet deep so younger kids can play and have fun.

The continental breakfast was good. They offered about the same foods every day, but it was always fresh and out on time.

We were pleased and would stay there again.

My family and I spent a long weekend at the begining of May in Myrtle Beach at this hotel, and it was a great experience. I made the reservations directly with the hotel, and the reservation agent was most helpful in assisting me in selecting a room and finding me a great rate. We stayed in a suite. It was a little smaller than I expected, but I liked the decor, and it was very clean. The continental breakfast each morning was the same, but there was a lot of vareity and you could have something different every day. The pools and lawn area were very clean. We liked the extra space of the lawn to lay out in the sun. The staff was very pleasant, and my family and I will deffinetly stay there again.

Our first night there, our A/C was broke and we had to switch rooms at midnight. Lighting in room is WAY too dark. Had very bad front desk service. Doors didn't close right. Needs a lot more work to be a decent hotel. Not worth the money i wasted. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!

We booked at the Holiday Inn at the Pavillion for our family March Break trip. We had stayed at the Grande Shores last year and enjoyed it but decided to try somewhere new. Here are the things that we liked about the Holiday Inn Pavillion:

1) Price - can't complain, very reasonable rates
2) Room - loved the layout, new decor, nice size, fantastic view -however there was a stale musty smell so we used a lot of Febreeze every day
3) Breakfast - although it's the same offering every day, the free continental breakfast is definitely a bonus
4) Linda at the front desk was excellent to deal with and handled all of my concerns very professionally
5) Location - great view, convenient, however a noisy patio bar across the street makes early nights impossible

Here are the things we didn't like:

1) Name is misleading - this property has nothing to do with the chain, and although I read that it is independantly owned and operated, the true meaning didn't sink in - I don't know how they get away with this legally but as a tourist I don't like being misled
into buying something that I think is a trusted name

2) They make you pay for your entire stay upfront, not upon check-out

3)They advertise "5 pools, 3 heated" but fail to mention that not all
are operating until summer. Last year we LIVED in the heated outdoor pool so having to sit and watch my kids swim in an indoor pool was a drag -noisy, chlorine smell rather than in the sun or shade of outdoors - again, I was misled from the copy on their website

4)Only one elevator was working which was a huge pain for such a large property

5)One night just after midnight a fire alarm went off and stayed blaring for more than 30 minutes!!!!! I understand that for safety reasons they cannot disable the alarm until the fire dept declares it a false alarm but it really shouldn't be screaching at full volume that long. The kids were very scared, and cranky the next day. We heard lots of guests grumbling about this - if management were smart they would have arranged a token "sorry" - mini golf passes, free ice cream, anything small to acknowledge how disruptive it was

6)Being from Ontario where smoking is prohibited in most public places, it was disgusting to see housekeepers vacumming the hallways with a cig hanging out of their mouths

7)Teenagers working the front desk who have crappy attitudes and customer service skills. Also the "concierge" knew very little about the area and attractions but was only there to sell time shares - that's fine but don't call yourself a concierge, call yourself the time share sales guy

So, for me, the bad outweighed the good. Yes, I've stayed at worse places, but when I have driven for 18 hours and am spending more than a week, I expect my needs to be met and exceeded. I won't stay there again.

  • Liked — Room size and layout and hotel location on the beach
  • Disliked — Too many little problems all added up to equal an unsatisfactory stay

We booked a "King Oceanfront Suite" after being told about the extensive remodeling that had been done, including two new flat screen tv's in each suite. Well, our "new" tv's were probably new in about 1980. Both elevators were dirty & in disrepair (apparently due to remodeling efforts). The suite itself was average at best, but certainly nothing to write home about. The price was decent, but the next day we relocated to the Hampton Inn at Broadway At The Beach. Yes, we paid a little more, but the level of service and overall quality far exceeded that of Holiday Inn At The Pavilion. If you're just looking for a fairly cheap place to stay, you may like it. But, for my money, just a little more can get you a lot more elsewhere.
