Spent just one day at myrtle beach. The beach and ocean were perfect.
The Boardwalk and Promenade areas are small. Didnt see many families and Was wondering why so many cops were on patrol so early at 5pm.

“Lame and Shady”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2012

My husband and I went to Myrtle Beach for our honeymoon in July 2012. It took us all week to be able to find some parking to even get to the boardwalk, every time we tried to go it was packed everywhere and we didn't want to pay $8 to park in a parking garage when we didn't even know what was there. We drove up Ocean Boulevard behind the boardwalk the first night we were there and there were tons of people walking around and walking in front of our car into the street, so we thought that there had to be something there worth going to see, but we were wrong. We went to the boardwalk around 5:30 before the crowds started coming in and found parking in a parking lot for $5. The boardwalk and promenade are both nice and we had a nice walk up and down them. However there were minimal shops and absolutely nothing for us to do. There we also no restrooms available. We tried walking on Ocean Boulevard behind it where there were more shops and restaurants, and there were some really shady people there, especially for 6:00 in the evening. Within minutes we were harassed by shop owners, who paid particular attention to the fact that we were married by looking at our rings, and it was really weird. After that we had enough and left after only being there for an hour and a half. What a waste of time. I couldn't imagine bringing children there, especially later at night when the younger crowds come in.

“long road ahead to polish”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2012

i came here as a kid in the 70's;finally tearing down the fleabag hotels,a few more to go.nice to see the old places like peaches corner;the bowery is clean and put outdoor seating in front. Saw one cop the whole time. too much traffic on the fourth of july week holiday.
The Gay dolphin gift shop is a must see for all;remember it as a kid;nice to bring my 10 year old in it to show her what i saw as a kid
They did remodel the boardwalk;don't get me wrong;the boardwalk is clean and fun but the front drag (ocean blvd is trying to clean up the old run down hotels by tearing them down)(too bad it looks like the Beaverly might be next. It was closed. I stayed there as a kid and knew the owners. They leased it out in their later years. The people who took it over ran it into the ground and now it is closed and roped off like a murder scene. The stardust is now the Budget Inn.(a few blocks south......new name same filth....Skip it and sllep in a gutter.
My daughter is happy we stayed in north myrtle beach and does not want to go back to south myrtle at all
