“Loved the hotel, but outdoor activities, not so much!"”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2011

We went to Myrtle Beach and stayed at this hotel because we wanted to lounge at the pools and/or beach. First, the pools were impossibly crowded--only two small pools for a large hotel and it seemed that people staying in the nearby condominium complexes were also using the same pools. There were times during the day that people were virtually shoulder to shoulder in the pool. Also, kids were being thrown up in the air and were allowed to use all kinds of pool toys in the pool. Not only was it not relaxing. At times I felt it was dangerous. Also, the pool was not that clear, so if you swam underwater, people can't see you.

We are fair skinned and prefer to sit in the shade, especially when it was as hot as it was. The pool chair situation was ridiculous. People horded chairs all day and night long and it was a war just to get a chair, never mind in the shade. If you want to sit on the beach, be prepared to pay $30.00 for two chairs and an umbrella (per day).

The inside of the hotel was very nice and the staff was pleasant. However, who wants to stay inside at the beach?

When you stay at any Embassy Suites you know what to expect-the Hilton Family of quality, the manager's reception, the free breakfast, etc...and this Embassy Suites is no different. Being oceanfront automatically make you feel relaxed but with all of the pools, bars, and great food-it makes it that much easier. The staff is friendly, the valet service is worth the tips and the amenities are exactly what you'd expect from an Embassy Suites. It's stylish and well laid out but the main entrance could use a little bit of updating. This resort's location is well situated in Myrtle Beach and I will definitely be going back.

This hotel was perfect for our family (5 yr old and 1 yr old). The suites had enough room to fit everyone comfortably. Everything was clean and the staff was very friendly. The dining area, microwave, sink, and fridge in the room made meals easy if we didn't want to go out. The included breakfast was great for kids and adults ... just try to get there before 9 to avoid the rush. The various pools, splash park, and beach access kept us busy all day long.

We recently stay at this Embassy Suites with our two children (6 and 1). There were a few annoyances (toilet paper spring hold kept popping out of hold), the bedroom closet door was off the track and wouldn't open or close, room cleaning service was so late one day we didn't think they were coming), but overall the hotel was very nice.

My biggest complaint is that the hotel doesn't seem equipped to handle the summer crowds. There are three elevators, and are regularly crowded. When trying to check-out, it took us 20 minutes just to get to the lobby because we had to wait for four elevators. When we were out at the pool one afternoon, there were no pool towels available (we checked regularly for about and hour and a half) and the supply was never restocked. In the hotel's defense on that one, some of the guests would help themselves to 20 towels to take the the beach (which you are not suppose to do). We went down to breakfast early, so never had a problem, but when we would leave for the beach, the line would stretch through the lobby.

The pools and splash area were very nice. My complaint with that has more to do with the guests. People would take out there towels, or get the hotels towels to "reserve" poolside chairs for themselves. We were out for two hours one morning and the chairs never came close to being filled, but I still was only able to find one available chair.

I would not recommend this hotel (at least during peak season) to anyone looking for a relaxing vacation or a place to stay for business. This was great for a family, minus the frustration of getting to/from our room during peak hours.

We have been coming to Kingston Plantation for the past 7 years and have been very happy with the property until this year. Because of health issues, we stayed in the Brighton Towers instead of one of the lodges or villas so my wife could get to the beach more easily. The walk to the beach was definitely shorter but the living experience was poor. We had a one bedroom room with a mini-kitchen, desk, large bathroom and flat-screen TV. There was no where to sit and watch TV except for the bed, so I had to bring in an outside chair for "more comfortable" seating. The mini-refrigerator in the room barely worked and it took 3 phone calls to guest services and 6 hours for a maintenance person to come and look at the appliance. It was determined that it was not working well and a report to the Maintenance Manager was made. Another maintenance worker came the next afternoon and finally the manager approved another refrigerator be moved into the room. Our biggest concern was that my insulin was supposed to be refrigerated and it was not kthyept cold for at least 32 hours.

If you book one of these guest rooms at the Brighton Tower please know that there us "limited" maid service. Your bed will be maid, towels changed and the bathroom-sized trash can will be emptied. The carpet is filthy, there is black mold under the refrigerator door and whatever sand you bring into the room remains there during your entire stay. There is not any bathroom service and you will probably get only part of your required towels and wash cloths. What is so sad is the fact that you will pay more for this guest room than you will a villa that has a bedroom, bathroom, full kitchen, sitting room with a dining area. We spend $1500.00 for the week and got very little service. Please be aware of all of this if you want to book this room and that there is ice available in the lobby only if the machine is making ice that day. GOOD LUCK!!

We are Hilton Gold members and normally stay at the Hiltons. First time staying at an Embassy Suites and was overall happily suprised though would totally make some changes.
Checkin- arrived on a wednesday so no real line although there was noone at the honors special line, got the room within a half hour. Got free internet through gold honors, but it was slow. Never got the amenities we were supposed to get as gold members otherwise until we asked for them.
Room- very spacious for my husband and I and our almost 2 year old son. Like the double sink in the bathroom, but found the actual bathroom area of the shower/toilet kind of cramped. AC at night didn't always seem to get to the temperature we wanted.
Breakfast- not bad considering its free so cannot really complain, but after 2 days of it you will probably get tired of it and want more or something that tastes just a little better. The waffles, though you make them yourself, just tasted funny. Maybe it was the batter. Eggs seemed weird too. We ate at the hotel 2 days, but there are plenty of inexpensive places to go for breakfast right outside of hte hotel. Stacks pancake house was pretty good.
Pool- not bad, but dont expect to actually be able to swim or relax or don't be fooled when you hear that there are 9 or 14 pools to choose from. Embassy suites itself has 2 medium sized pools and the water park. The other pools are at the other towers/villas. The medium sized pools are no way near large enough to hold the number of guests and children the hotel has. Hot tub generally always had kids in it and you cannot find one spot at the pool that does not have small or grown children jumping into it and splashing everyone or groups of people throwing balls in the pool. Very annoying.......Lifeguards also shut the pool down if they think their may be rain/thunder.
Poolside lounge chairs and Towels- hotel has poolside towels it offers, but you need at least 2 to cover your chair and they are too small to really be used at beach towels. Woudl highly recommend to bring your own towels as most people did becuase they used these to put on the lounge chairs. Be prepared to be up by 7am because that is pretty much when most people started claiming the lounge chairs with their towels.
Beach chairs/umbrellas- Lifeguard will rent you 2 beach chairs and an umbrella for $30 a day. Save yourself some money and go to the Walmart or the bargain beach store that is located eveyr few blocks and just buy one and use it your entire stay. Walmart had them for $20, bargain beach store was selling them for $5.99 and its right on 17 before you turn towards kingston plantation
Noise- Bands are ridiculously loud. I didn't mind it so much during the day, but when its all day long, its really annoying and tiresome. You can't relax. Even that didn't bug me so much as the fact that the noise lasted till about 10 at night. Try putting your kid to sleep when it sounds like you are at a rock concert with really high decible levels...
Locatoin: great!!! Everything we needed, wanted to do, was no more than 20-25 minutes at most. Airport- 25 minutes, Barefoot landing- 7 minutes, Tanger Outlets and Walmart- one mile up the road, maybe 5 minutes, Broadway at hte Beach- 20 minutes, Main Boardwalk at ocean blvd and family kingdom area is about 23 minutes.
Restaurants: didn't really eat at the hotel except breakfast 2 days and lunch through splash cafe. Splash cafe was fine, but we went out for dinner everyday. Myrtle beach has no shortage of different cuisines easily available within a 5-20 minute drive.
Golf and Spa- golf is available right outside kingston plantation and you can either use the spa at the hilton hotel or there is the Kiva day spa right outside the kingston plantation entrance. we didn't get to do this, but were hoping too
Parking- no problem always easily found a spot
Staff- very friendly, no problem with housekeeping, plenty of bath towels given
Elevators: only 4 elevators, expect to wait at times during days or times when the crowds are greater.
Overall, I would still return, but I may actually try the other pools even if I have to walk or drive to them.

This place is great for families. It you want a quiet get away with tons of ambience this is not the place. But if your on the road and you want a GREAT room with free wi-fi, balcony and beach front view. Stay Here ... we LOVED it ... could have stayed in our room or on beach front for weeks.

The lobby is a busy place ... feels a bit like a theme park. Congested with lots of activity- good restaurants. But you need to eat at an 'off hour' - at those times the lobby was a great place to hang out.

Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Laundry facilities were not so dependable - lots of quarters used for not too many clothes. So if you don't need to do laundry just avoid that room. I

Room Tip: I think all the rooms have a balcony and view of beach so they are all good.
