I just returned home from Oceans One Resort and I can say confidently that I will not stay there again.
I was going to post this review while I was still there but I wanted to wait to see what their resolution time and follow through was like.
First let me say that I’ve wanted to stay at Oceans One for years ever since it first opened so I was extremely excited about staying there and upon arriving I was fairly pleased with the cordial if not overly polite service during check in. We stayed from 07/27 through 08/04.
We (my girlfriend and I) entered the room (Type 7-room 606) and at first glance it was pretty much what I expected. It was nice. Upon unpacking and closer inspection there were little things that starting coming to light such as what appeared to be a dead flea in the bathroom drawer. We immediately started inspecting the rest of the room and called the front desk. I spoke with the same women that had checks us in and I guess she thought I was exaggerating because she actually laughed at me and told the hotel had no bug issues. I really felt like I had been blown off. We found no other sign of bugs in the room luckily but we were definitely nervous from that point forward.
That first night when we went to bed the sheets felt damp and it was a little un-nerving and we slept with our cloths on because we were worried.
Warning: The Type 7 is advertised on the web site as having two queen beds. This is not the case, there were two full beds in the room.
I called the front desk the next morning and spoke with multiple different people at the desk. That morning (July 28, Sunday) they were very nice and very helpful. I had asked them about the sheets and the fact that there was no table on the balcony as advertised and for a new remote control for the TV because it did not work. As you can see there were many little things that were adding up. I also asked about the bug issue again because I felt like there was no resolution the first time. They were prompt and apologetic about everything.
To top it all off on the 6th day of our stay we realized that all the vents in the room were leaking water. We contacted the front desk yet again and they sent some one up. Their solution to the issue was to turn down the AC. That is not a solution. Everyone knows that there is condensation with Air Conditioning units but that should be on the outside. We had to move out electronics to another outlet because they were getting dripped on. We were as you can imagine not pleased with this or their response to this. We did not call the desk again because well…..at that point it seemed pointless to even try anymore.
For $1865.00 for 8 nights I thought that this really should have been better.
From what I can tell from my stay there is a lack of any real oversight at this property. What’s even more disturbing is that these condos are privately owned and if I were an owner I would be extremely disturbed at the way my property was being managed.
Honestly it is the little things that bothered me the most. The leaking vents are obviously part of a larger issue that should be addressed and the owner of that condo should be notified immediately before they have to discover it on their own. The missing table from the balcony (which by the way was replaced with what looked like something that was built in some ones shed, the paint was still tacky and there were screws sticking out of it), the remote that did not work, the damp sheets, the bug that was found. All of these issues would have been discovered if there was actually someone checking the rooms. I understand that it is peak season and housekeeping is very busy but it would only take a couple of minutes to do a once over of the room to confirm that everything is order.
I have stayed in many hotels in Myrtle Beach and I always stay (or at least try to) at a premium property and I am willing to pay a premium to do so. Unfortunately this time we did not get what we paid for.
NOTE: I am also writing a letter to management.
