“Enjoyed the Sand Dunes!”

Sand Dunes Resort Hotel

Jul 24, 2008

My family and I stayed a week at the Sand Dunes Resort Hotel in July. We enjoyed our stay there in beautiful Myrtle Beach. The Hotel features a waterpark on-site which my kids LOVED! My husband and I also enjoyed it because we could watch them play and relax together. The hotel also features two lazy rivers, two outdoor pools, and an indoor pool. We utilized all of the facitilies. The room was a good size efficiency room and was clean. The staff was always friendly. This is our third visit with Sand Dunes and we always enjoyed it! The family package the hotel offers is nice as it includes a buffet breakfast every morning. The price overall is comparable with other hotels, but the waterpark is a big plus for us! Myrtle Beach is a great getaway for families! We will definitely stay here again when we return to Myrtle Beach!

“Disappointment this year”

Visited this resort after an acceptable stay last year and it was a disappointment this year.

Parking continues to be a complete disaster at this hotel. Good luck finding parking if you go out and come back after 9PM.

As for room service - not happening sometimes until late in the day was just not acceptable. And when they did do it, they always neglected something - whether it was not putting garbage bags, or refilling toilet paper or vacuuming - something was always missed and you had to go out of your way and make your request to the front desk. This was a regular problem that we did not have last year.

Some of the on site ammenities that seemed to be out of order remained out of order for the entire stay and there was just no sense of urgency to repair them.

The elevators were constantly on the fritz.

More security presence to control the occassional out of control youth in common element areas is also recommended. This is a family resort that has many young children around. In one instance I had to remove my child from the indoor pool area because it was filled with smoke from a group of pot smoking youth on the pool balcony.

The water park was enjoyable and seemed to be functioning well most of the time.

In all it just seemed to be a bit more run down and neglected and I don't plan on staying here again unfortunately and will look for somewhere else of better quality. Sands really needs to take measures to protect / improve this resort.

“Never Again!!”

We stayed at this hotel from July 9-July19. Having stayed here last year, plus with the hotel bragging it was under "new management", we thougth we'd give it a try again, only to find several issues with the accomodations. There were 2 showers we could use when coming off the beach. 1 was out of order when we arrived, and was still not working when we left. There were sewer pipes from the streets draining water right in front of the hotel beach. Everytime it rained, all the street waste would clog the beach. Not a pretty site and was also dangerous and toxic for anyone walking near there. The hotel states it has 2 hot tubs. Once again, 1 was out of order when we arrived, and was the same when we left almost 2 weeks later. The indoor pool was nice, however the plumbing in the ceiling (it appeared to be sewage pipes) would drip into the pool water during the whole stay. The lazy river in the non-water park area had no "current", which did not give the lazy river effect. To further add, the cement dolphins that should be squirting water in the pool were also broken. After the 3rd day, I asked housekeeping not to come back as a result of poor cleaning and the fact they left my door open for several hours while I was at the beach, leaving my laptop, digital camera and camcorder ready for the taking for anyone who entered. When I complained at the front desk, it seemed that they didn't really care. I also explained to them that my front door was difficuly to open and close. The said they would send someone to fix it. After 4 days of waiting, I gave up. The ice machine on my floor (7) had beer bottles and other containers on it. I had the luxury of staring at them every time I passed as nobody would clean them up for my entire stay. The elevators were also on the fritz. People were afraid to use them as several people had gotten stuck in them on previous days. On the positive side, I found the wireless interent a bonus, as well as the large plasma TV in my room great. In all, I highly doubt I will visit this hotel again. There are much cheaper, newer and better equiped hotels out there. Take caution before booking here.

“Sand Dunes was GREAT for my family”

Sand Dunes Resort Hotel

Jul 20, 2008

My husband and I have 4 children and we recently stayed at SD. I read some reviews before booking this hotel and didn't really know if I was doing the right thing by booking this resort. We got a room with a king bed and pull-out sofa, the youngest kids slept their with their own TV. The oceanfront room with the huge window was a great view. The bathroom was very clean. I have seen some of the photos from other reviews and honestly, our room looked nothing liked the photos. We stayed on the 9th floor, I have no complaints about our room at all. We never saw a cockroach, that's not to say there wasn't any around. I think when you have so many people renting these rooms, your going to have roaches, I think all hotels have them. The waterpark was very nice, but also very crowded. We got the free breakfast every morning we were there. That saves a lot of money with 6 people eating free. Everything is in walking distance (gift shop, pizza, River City Cafe) Just a hint, the pizza at the shop inside the hotel is awful!!! Very rude service also. My main wish for a hotel room is cleanliness, and it was definatly clean.

“roaches and bed bugs”

Sand Dunes Resort Hotel

Jul 18, 2008

We stayed in the penthouse at Sand Dunes last week. We usually stay at Baywatch. But this year we took the kids plus grandkids. So we wanted to stay where we had plenty of room plus a water park for the grandkids.

The penthouse is beautiful and there was plently of room for 7 adults and 4 kids. There wasn't alot of cooking pans or utenils.

We saw roaches the first day we were there. They came and sprayed but we continued to see both alive and dead roaches everyday. we called the front desk again and was told there was roaches because we were in the south. I have stayed in Myrtle beach for the past 19 years and have never found roaches.

Also one the adults got up with bites all over so we think it was bed bugs.
