“Very Pretty”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2013

Great for a early morning or late evening activity. If you plan to add this to your trip, go get your tickets early in the week...because they last for 7 days. So you can go back. Lots of walking.

“Well Worth the Price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2013

You might think a $14 admission price is a little steep, but then you find out your ticket is good for 7 days. Like many folks, we were only able to go here for one day, but I didn't feel ripped off at all! We stayed for 4 hours and could have stayed much longer. These gardens are famous for their statues. Take advantage of the tours if this is your first visit. There is always something blooming in the gardens and a table at the welcome center will tell you what to look for. There is art, history, flora and fauna all in one place. Walk the lowlands trail and learn about what life was like from a slave's perspective working the rice fields. Be sure to look out over the fields and you might spot an alligator in the wild like we did!
There is a small zoo here with local wildlife and animals used on the plantation. Being from coastal NC where we have wild horses on our outer banks, I was interested to learn about the wild goats on SC's outer banks. The walk through aviary with the wading birds was my favorite part of the zoo however. We went at feeding time with a guide, which made this extra enjoyable.
There are extra programs and excursions going on all the time, so if you like the outdoors and history, you will never be bored here. This place is so big that I bet even in peak season you can find a quiet place to relax and get away from the noise and crowds. We hope to go here again as there is no way to see everything in one day and there is always something new.

“Overpriced. Boring.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

Not a great place for younger people--kids, teens, even young adults. In fact, I'd say this place is most appropriate for the 55+ crowd. It's overpriced and they don't provide any seasonal discounts. Plus they want to charge additional money for a shuttle to take you to another area.

Brookgreen offers many daily programs and activities for visitors of all ages. The Brookgreen Detectives is a booklet filled with games and puzzles about the sculpture, animals and history of the gardens. We also have a Garden Room for Children especially designed with features that appeal to all kids. The Children's Discovery Room has seven interactive stations where children can have fun as they learn. The popular animal program, Mother Nature's Cafe gives kids an opportunity to ask questions and interact with some of the native animals found in the area. In the Lowcountry Zoo guests can learn about the animals in this area and the Lowcountry Trail provides a walking tour of history. All these programs and activities are included in regular garden admission which is good for seven consecutive days. We hope you will visit again soon!

“Time to enjoy nature and your family.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

We loved every bit of this. We enjoy seeing our kids respond to the animals and learn a bit about the sculptures. There were little detective books to keep the kids intrigued, as well as areas designated for their interests. It was a nice wrap-up to a lovely weekend. Very enjoyable and wonderful staff!

“Excellent Walking paths”

Loved the walking paths - especially outside the gardens... The zoo was good - loved seeing the foxes and otters.
