“Second Stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012

This was my second stay at this beautiful Mt Pleasant property. I was still just as impressed with the beautiful lobby as the first time I walked in. As beautiful as it is, there's not much going on. There's plenty of seating and a bar area, but no one tending the bar as guests pass by. As with my last stay, I found the front desk agents stale...there wasn't much interaction unless need be, no smiles as we walked by, didn't make us feel appreciated as guest at all. The pool area was overtaken by drunk college kids and I observed a family try to use it then just gave up. Towels were stacked outside in the hamper, but the gentleman at the front desk left them sitting there when he replenished the clean towels. It's a shame this great hotel doesn't have a more motivated staff running it.

Room Tip: Get a room on the top floor, it's very loud when kids run down the halls.

We recently stayed at this Marriott after a trip to Colonial Williamsburg where we stayed in a rather budget friendly accommodation which we were not pleased with. We were so pleased driving up to this Marriott's beautiful exterior. The main lobby is welcoming with it's soft color pallette, hardwood floor, comfortable looking furniture. The lobby also had a great smell which I never found out what it was-something like a spa scent, or incense! Unfortunately, our first experience upon check-in was what seemed to be an "attitude" from the front desk clerk when he was questioned about an additional (refundable) charge of approximately $20 per day for incidentals which was billed to guests paying with bank debit. He could not be sure specificallly what the charge to the card would be, he stated "like $20". On another instance in the evening, while searching the pay per view children's movies, we called the front desk to find the cost before we actually chose the movie, however, there was no answer at the desk. My husband walked down, and was told by the same gentleman staff member that he had no idea of the movie cost, that we would just have to follow tv prompts. Beware-a children's movie was near $18, and there is no dvd player in the room. This gentleman staff member seemed overwhelmed as the front desk phones were ringing and he had no other staff member there to assist him. Our feeling is that staffing is limited. We saw a woman staff member in the hallway who actually greeted us the first day we were there, never saw anyone at the bar until the afternoon that we checked out. The nicest staffer we came across was the pool man, who was quite cordial, and should be considered an asset to this property. The pool was awefully textured on the bottom, and was rather small, but is beautifully landscaped and has wonderful piped in music. Hot tub was too hot to step in, and the fire pit was never lit any of the 3 days we were there. Of note is that the upholstered outdoor furniture stays out in the rain! We thought the room was very nice and spacious-a good value for the per day charge. I did notice a "wet cup" ring on the bedside table upon check-in which would have easily been removed if it was wiped by housekeeping as the tabletop is laminate. The bathroom was large and clean, however, there is definitely an issue with craftsmanship as far as tile maintenance and grout is concerned. There was some grout missing, and was very sloppily applied in corners-looked like dirt smudged with a mop until you got up close and saw that it was grout. Also a glob of what looked like drywall mud on the back of the bathroom door. 2 sticky spots were on the bedroom rug in front of the fridge. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at this hotel, and would consider staying here again, but biggest issue was the unwelcome feeling from the staff.

Very nice lobby, restaurant and bar area. Staff very friendly and helpful. Great location with easy access to downtown and restaurants. Right off of interstate for ease of traveling. Food in restaurant was good. Beds were comfortable with updated decor.

Room Tip: rooms are available with balcony, nice

Nice property. A compromise between downtown Charleston and the beach. Lots of nearby restaurants. Ample parking. Rates can be pricey during the "high season," but overall a good value. Already have reservations for my next visit.

We have stayed here several times in the last few years. Our "usual" when we come to our favorite get away, Charleston. Convienient to beach and city. Always clean and safe feeling. The only negative are the staff recommendstions for restaurants. We've always been more than satisfied with our stays. We love the little ice cream parlor down the street too.

Hello and thank you so much for taking the time to submit a review for our hotel. Just delighted to hear that you enjoy our location and amenities. I"ll certainly look into restaurant recommendations from our guest services team. Way too many great places in Charleston to miss out on such wonderful cuisine. Thank you again for letting us know! Kindest Regards, AMiller.

This was my third visit to this Courtyard in Mt. Pleasant, SC. I think we had the smallest and worst room on the property but it was just fine. We had originally booked at the Residence Inn, a sister property, about a mile down the road but were notified that they were overbooked and if OK, they would switch us to Courtyard to include breakfast at no additional charge. Perfect. The hotel is very nice, lots of parking, friendly and efficient service and nicely located to shopping & dining... the beach is a few miles away. Happy Hour at the bar included wings and spinach dip with tortilla chips. The breakfast buffet was very nice and had everything to "eggs your way", fresh fruit, waffles, and such. I'm certain that we will be back for another visit!

Room Tip: Having stayed here a few times, Room 167 is not one of the better rooms!

Excellent service, great location in Mt. Pleasant, just minutes from the beach. Very nice, very clean accomadations, friendly staff. Had buffet breakfast, very good, bit pricey. Would stay again. In a business area with many stores nearby and restaurants.

Room Tip: ask for high floor room
