Owner description: The history of Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum began in June 1975 when the legendary aircraft carrier USS Yorktown entered Charleston Harbor. A few months later, the USS Yorktown was dedicated as the first ship of the Naval & Maritime Museum on the 200th birthday of the United States Navy. Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum was officially opened to the public on January 3, 1976. Today the museum consists of the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown (CV-10) with 29 aircraft on display from WWII to the present; the USS Laffey (DD-724), a Sumner-class destroyer; and the USS Clamagore (SS-343), a GUPPY III submarine. The Congressional Medal of Honor Society is headquartered here and their official Medal of Honor Museum is onboard the USS Yorktown. There is also a Cold War Sub Memorial and Vietnam Support Base Camp on the surrounding grounds.

“Great place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

Went there Oct 14 2013. Great museum, enjoyed the Yorktown, Laffey, Clamagore. The Yorktown was by far the neatest. Also saw a dolphin swimming by the Yorktowns stern within 50 ft of us and a manatee right under us. Was a really cool place.

“Great ships”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

Really enjoyed seeing these ships. Great respect for the sailors that spent time during World War ll, on the Aircraft carrier, destroyer & submarine, that are restored there.

“Awesome day! Bring water or money to buy on carrier!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2013

Went on my own to this park and spent about 6 hours here, I was able to do the fort tour, sub, battleship, and some of the carrier. I wouldn't recommend the ships other than the carrier if with small kids. The stairs are quite steep in the ship and it is much hotter inside the ships!! At times it seemed like I was the only one not the ship as people with kids and the elderly could not climb and duck into some of the tight spaces.

I loved climbing up from the flight deck and into the tower on the carrier! Great views of the bay and was a place few people ever get the chance to go.

Will be returning if I am ever back in Charleston as I still missed the Vietnam base and memorials.

“A Nice 3 Hour Day”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2013

Three ships to tour and lots to learn. Glad that there were elevators to get on the aircraft carrier and to reach the other levels. The top deck was great. Lots of older planes on deck and inside. Also Inside there was a huge American flag where lots of photos were being taken in front of. I could not go on the submarine because of mobility difficulties. A very nice Vietnam memorial and make-shift camp is located there also along with several types of helicopters. We wanted souvenirs but the shop was closed when we left which was before closing time.

“Nice. Been to a few ship type museums around country. This was average.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2013

Yorktown's up/down ladders probably to steep for most. Interesting exhibits. Was sad to see so much disrepair on sub. Sub not for the faint of heart to tour. Still enjoyed tour of all. Great gift shop however had the s l o w e s t sales clerk in the world.
