Stripped of it's decor it would be a diner, but the tasteful decor makes it more "upscale" and less "diner". (I think it's the fact that there are so many booths in the restaurant). However, the artwork, impeccably clean and beautiful fish tank, lovely cozy bar area and the lighting make it more upscale and interesting. The menu is very much local seafood, and I've described the chefs as the type who "put a lot of love into what they do" because the menu is a little "daring" and the food is always absolutely delicious. Absolutely delicious! The service is always warm friendly. I've ordered probably 15 different menu items and have loved them all. The prices have recently gone up a dollar or so per entree but the quality is worth the extra $ because it was, in my opinion, too inexpensive before the price increase. You can still find many entrees for in the $12-13 range (and some below that). The specials are often around $17 but are made with extra EXTRA love. The clientele consists of mostly regulars and the occasional delighted visitors who stumble upon this restaurant after trucking over from other parts of the metro area, probably due to someone's recommendation. The restaurant can accommodate big groups and small, but it's best to call ahead with a group bigger than 4. All they have to do is get a new window (drunk driver drove into the restaurant a while back, affecting some seating in the bar area) and the restaurant will be back to normal. One more noteworthy thing about Locklear's - I like the fact that every time I drive by the restaurant the sign has a new message. Good job, Locklears! I hope to be a regular for a long time!
