Description: Tucked halfway between Mount Pleasant proper and Sullivan’s Island is the little seafood eatery the New York Post proclaimed was "a sleeper" with 'shrimp that is nothing short of miraculous’. Buddy Roe’s doesn’t claim to be a five star restaurant. What they lack in overpriced menu items they more than make up for in total ambiance. BuddyRoe’s is a clean little hangout where locals converge to enjoy palette pleasing local fresh shrimp, fried oysters, fish Tacos, awesome burgers, throw back a couple of beers, and listen to great live music performed by some of the best local musicians. Think red dirt Texas roadhouse meets tropical Key West beach and you have the recipe for BuddyRoe’s Shrimp Shack. This is truly a laid back tropical paradise that is certain to satisfy all your senses, especially your taste buds and hearing.......like being on vacation!

This fried food joint in mt pleasant serves decent enough fried shrimp. But in charleston good shrimp is everywhere. So I'm saddened to pan a locals place that has served thousands of meals over the past 20 years.

But the sad truth is the fried food is average at best. And while not overpriced, its not cheap. You'd be better served spending a hundred bucks buying shrimp at the dock and the beverages of your choice and cooking them yourselves. Not a strong avoid; but a you could do better

“If you're looking for fried shrimp, look no further.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2012

Definitely no frills, but reasonably priced and really good shrimp. Also had cheap beer, which is a plus. We weren't expecting a fancy experience, we just wanted to gorge on some great fried shrimp. We got exactly what we wanted! We were seated immediately, had great/fast service and got lots of food. More than we could eat! Only regret is that the outside tables were full, so we were inside. They do have roll up garage-type doors though, so to be honest, it was very open-air feeling. We'll definitely be back for more shrimp when we return to IOP.

“Great time, fast and friendly service, and a warm family atmosphere!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2012 via mobile

My wife and I own a few places upstate and come to Charleston every few months. We discovered Buddy when we attempted to get a drink and food at other places on Coleman and the staff ignored us although they seemed very highly staffed, then we came to Buddy and the bartender immediately welcomed us and had our drinks full all night long. She recommended the fish tacos which were delicious! every time we come in she has our drinks ready before we are even through the door and calling every one around us by name and their drink
Preference. There's always great live music. The owners sing great and the whole restaurant seems to be like a little "Cheers" vibe. We've tried many times to venture to the surrounding places but it never fails that the staff has changed and once again we're stuck waiting on any type of service. I highly recommend this place if you want consistent, friendly, and attentive service.

“Nice music/atmosphere...not so sold on the food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2012

We enjoyed the music and atmosphere and the wait staff were attentive. Food was just ok and a bit pricey for what you got. Later in the week we went to a few establishments in neighboring cities and found better/cheaper selections.

“I wanted to like it”

The food is fried and tired. The staff unenthusiastic. I really wanted to like it but couldn't.
