This restaurant is not far from where I live, however with all the great places to eat in Charleston we typically end up here once every few months. We normally go here for lunch, though have been for dinner a few times.
For lunch the prices are a little high. 2 lunch plates, desert, and a coke will cost $40 before tip. The food, however, is typically excellent. Most of the dishes I've had here I would rate 4 on on the 5 point scale, a couple I would rate as a 3 for overall flavor and presentation.
Dinner prices are higher, as to be expected. I've only eaten here a few times for dinner. The dinner menu is decent and I would rate each of the dinners as 4 out of 5 points.
Deserts are normally excellent and a must after dinner. 4.5 of 5 on the deserts. Today was the first time, at lunch, I would rate the desert a 3.5 or 4 of 5.
Service is highly variable. Some visits services is excellent, 4 of 5. Other times we have had 2-point service with unkempt and inattentive wait staff. If you have to ask for a drink, ask for the check, and wait 15+ minutes to pay then there is a problem. Luckily that is not the norm but is has happened more than once. Typically, however the service is at least 3 of 5 if not 4 of 5.
With the prices I'd expect more 4s than 2s or 3s on the service.
Certainly better than the typical chain (Fridays, Applebees, etc.) experience but not as good as some other places in town. However that is to be expected in a town full of 4 and 5-star locations.
Overall worth a visit if you are in town & have time.
