“Great Staff - Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2014

Just returned from 4 nights here and loved it. The staff is so friendly and helpful and we got an upgrade to a Harbor View room with a balcony rather than overlooking the construction site of the new hotel next door. And what a PERFECT location! Water Taxi at your doorstep to downtown, a short walk to the Naval Museum and the Yorktown, and a free trolley to downtown and back. The breakfast buffet was wonderful and we ate lunch in the bar twice and the food and service was super. Much - MUCH better than staying in the hub-bub of downtown.

Room Tip: Get a Harbor View room on floors 3 or 4 if possible. Only 4 floors and the view from the second flo...

My husband and I got a fabulous deal for this resort on Amazon Local, but I was a little hesitant because of the recent reviews.
Here's the 411- The staff is wonderful! We originally purchased a "yorktown view' deluxe queen room with a balcony. Philip (at the front desk) explained that part of our view would be of a construction site- he offered to let us look at the room, and said we could upgrade if we weren't satisfied...I have to admit- the view was an eye sore, but Philip made it right by offering a discounted upgrade to a Harbor View room. The new room was lovely, but didn't offer a balcony, it did however have a sliding glass door that we could open to enjoy the breathraking views (room 438) everything was perfect.
They even sent us a complimentary bottle of wine since we were celebrating our anniversary.
It was a lovely stay- the staff was more than hospitable.,
The location is ideal. We enjoyed having drinks daily at the Reel Bar and the free breakfast was good, it wasn't outstanding, but much better than an average continental.
We hope to stay here again and again!

We look forward to see what the resort looks like after construction/additions are complete. The future plans look beautiful!

Room Tip: We LOVED the harbor view room!

Thank you very much for taking the time to write such a helpful review. Your experience with the room upgrade is common here. Unfortunately our Maritime view rooms have turned into construction view rooms. You still have a great view of the marina, USS Yorktown, and the Ravenel Bridge. But if you look down you do see the construction zone where we are building a new hotel addition to the property. Phillipp is one of our very talented front desk agents and he absolutely did the right thing by offering you a discounted upgrade fee. We are glad your anniversary weekend went so well and look forward to your next visit.

purchased a 2 day package on groupon. had some concerns when i read several reviews that were not that complementary. my experience was quite the opposite. one employee, phillip, checked us in. he provided an excellent first impression, was very helpful and patient when i asked to see several different rooms. he was quick to accommodate my wife and i and we decided to upgrade our room. i consider myself very low maintenance and always desire to maintain an attitude of gratitude knowing that we are able to afford a vacation when many others cannot. the resort/hotel was in very good condition, clean and had a great view of the harbor. we will consider staying here on our next stay. thank you phillip for your hospitality.

Room Tip: would recommend a room on the 4th floor.

Thank for purchasing one of our Groupon deals we make available throughout the year. We appreciate you choosing to stay with us despite the few negative remarks. Phillipp is a very valuable asset to the team and we are glad you were able to meet him. Next time your looking to visit Chucktown make sure you shop around on sites such as Groupon and Expedia. We are certainly affordable, and make ourselves available to the savvy traveler. We hope to see you soon.

We just returned from our stay. We loved it and look forward to the next time we can visit. We had a good view from our room, the Yorktown and part of the harbor. There was construction going on, but did not interfere with our stay. When we entered the beautiful room, I did notice what looked like a few bleach spots near the bathroom door...but hey, things happen. Overall the room was very nice and clean...the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast buffet was nice and had a lot to offer. The set up was very appealing. We loved being able to park the car and use the water taxi...so convenient. The grounds are beautiful and loved being able to walk along the harbor. I noticed in other reviews that people thought the room and bathroom were small...it was a little smaller than other places, but it was fine and the room is beautiful. How long are you really in the room??? We can't wait to be able to visit again and the Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina will be the place we stay. Hope this review helps,

Room Tip: We had a view of the Yorktown and part of the harbor...very nice.

We are very grateful for you spectacular review and appreciate your candidness. The resort is currently going through a major expansion that does cause some noise M-F from 8:30am - 5:30pm. and we're glad to hear it wasn't bothersome to your party. Thank you for the kind words regarding our location and room beauty. We look forward to your next stay.

We loved this hotel...our room was large, clean and inviting with a partial view of the harbor (and construction but we were told that ahead of time---we are early risers and we actually enjoyed watching the progress...little boys would love that view!). The service was timely; we had problems with the safe but the engineer had help on the scene promptly and all was resolved in short order. I am in medical care and pretty picky about surroundings...we did not have mold or so much as one ant (!). We do not use public hot tubs, but the pool was clean. Would be nice to have a baby pool so that e-Coli from diapers did not get into the water (for those with little ones). The drinks were reasonably priced at the pool and bar, and, with good tips for service, the drinks were substantial!! Our only complaint was lack of umbrellas at the pool to escape the sun while still being able to lounge. Front desk staff was courteous and the doorman was helpful. The snow cones, the infused water (coffee in the morning) were nice touches. Fruit would have been nice, or the daily newspaper. Having free internet is a plus compared to the big box hotels who charge by the day. Parking was free (also a cost of other hotels). We did pay an "activity fee" so I guess that was to cover the internet...otherwise we did not use the exercise facilities or the bicycles (it was 106 degrees with the humidity the entire 5 days!!). We did not get to the Fishhouse restaurant; everything is so close by and convenient, great location. We don't consider ourselves easy to please but do believe you get back what you put out. We would return. If I had found a situation like several of the reviewers,(black mold is reportable to the city inspectors and several other agencies), I would not have been stupid enough to have STAYED even one night, let alone 3 or more.

Room Tip: Ask about construction as it can be quite loud at times if you are a late sleeper!

Thank you very much for the lovely review. We absolutely appreciate you taking the time to provide us and the TripAdvisor readers such valuable feedback and information. Seeing that you are a medical professional and trained to have higher standards for cleanliness and health quality; it means a lot to get a seal of approval from your party. We are thrilled that you enjoyed your stay with and are glad you thought the front desk & bellman were friendly and helpful. Have a great summer and we hope to see you soon.

This was our second stay at this hotel. We love the location as it is right on the harbor and the sights are beautiful. Also, their breakfast buffet is reasonably priced and has a great selection of great quality food. However, for the price, there are some things that are less than desirable. The pool and hot tub could have been cleaner, the carpets throughout the interior hallways need to be replaced as they are very worn and have many stains. There is construction currently going on for a new building and we were given a room facing this. We booked this room months in advance and we were not given any notice that there would be construction. It was very noisy and started early in the morning. Lastly, my husband found an ant crawling on him as he was lying on the bed. He told the front desk upon check out, but was pretty much dismissed. He tried to contact management about the issue by email but still has not received a reply. Not sure if we will return.

We truly appreciate you guys returning to stay with us and wish this trip would have matched your previous one. The room reservation you originally booked was for a traditional 2 queen room with no view and no balcony. The front desk looks like they moved you to a room with a balcony that did have a partial view of the construction. All in all I believe it was better than the original booking. Either way the desk should have prefaced yall before placing you in that room, and we apologize for the unpleasant surprise. Next time you guys visit Charleston we hope you select our property again. Thanks again and we hope you have a great remainder of the summer.

Greed is a terrible thing, but more on that later.

Let's talk about the stench of mold knocking us down as we walked into our room. Or, how about carpets so filthy and stained that I didn't want to take my shoes off.

Let's not forget the half inch of dirt buildup along the baseboards and every fixture rusting.

As I layed on the bed thinking, "What have I done" to our vacation I noticed black mold all across the ceiling.

The lack of disrepair in these rooms was stunning at the very least. After ten minutes of sitting in this room and already knowing I was defeated we decided to try to talk to the front desk anyway. I explained very nicely I was an asthmatic and this was not going to bode well for me (my exact words). She offered no apologies whatsoever, and simultaneously her demeanor saying please go away I've heard this a thousand times.

I therefore suffered a sleepless night, struggling to breathe as any asthmatic would in a mold filled room. The next night we were able to get another room as they were not "sold out" but the smell was only slightly better.

Now back to my initial thought...greed. Currently, they are building an addition to this resort. We feel completely screwed out of our money. It's nice to know that our money is helping build a brand new clean, pretty building when our stay was so atrocious.

This "resort" has created an enormous opportunity cost. This alone is very bewildering to me. How do you acquire so much money only to make people never want to return? The location of this resort makes it very appealing however I would NEVER recommend staying here. A few of our friends had plans to come down in a couple weeks. You better believe they won't be staying here nor will anyone else I have contact with.

Other problems: broke TV (had to be replaced), broke faucets, paint missing from walls, molded and shredded curtains, air conditioning that runs only on high or off and sounds like a landing strip, and on and on...

They icing on the cake was the cock roach crossing the foyer in broad daylight.
On a final note the website for this resort was extremely misleading and I'm not afraid to say, in the realm of bait and switch I have never felt so misled in my life. I always do my due diligence, the owners of this resort should be proud..you got me!
