“Wonderful Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2012

What a wonderful surprise awaited us at Abingdon Manor. We spent the night on our way back home from the winter in Florida. We arrived to a warm welcome from Michael the owner and host who gave us a tour and quick history of the beautiful Inn and gardens. We were offered refreshments and invited to make ourselves comfortable on the lovely verandah. I believe there are 7 rooms each of them beautiful and well appointed. we took a sneak peak into the others we were the first guests of the day.
Dinner was at 7.30 and wow, a seven course feast. As you have read Patty, Michael's wife is a chef, and she did not disappoint us,each course better than the one before. I wished we could have spent a few days. Breakfast the next morning was another treat.
We hope to visit again, it is a perfect location, Latta SC is just a few minutes off "I 95". Definitely worth a stop.
Patty also has a cooking school which is very tempting, we might just try to fit that in somehow. This Inn was the highlight of our leisurely 4 day trip back north and the best meal all winter.
Thanks Michael and Patty, I hope to see you again.

Room Tip: I belive most of the rooms are beautiful and have lots of either windows or a walk out .

This Inn is a wonderful delight! It is convenient if you are driving on I-95. The food is to die for. Michael and Patty Griffen are excellent hosts. I recently stayed here on my way to and from Florida and had an excellent stay. The other guests also are very interesting people. You should not miss this gem!

This was a wonderful experience. A great place to stay and eat on trip from NJ to Florida. The host and his wife, the chef, could not have been more accomadating.

What a way to feel spoiled. The Inn is beautiful and a very well maintained piece of history. Upon entering, you are transported back to a different time. The rooms are beautiful and it is difficult to choose which one is perfect for you. We chose to stay because we had read about the award winning dining experience. It does not disappoint. Our meal started with an appetizer of Polenta with Gorgonzola and pine nuts. I normally would not have ordered this and much to my delight it was awesome. It was followed with a Curried red lentil soup and caesar salad. Both delicious. We were refreshed with a grapefruit and campari sorbet and then served the main dish of Filet of Beef with Bordelaise sauce, rosemary roasted potatoes and carrots vichy. All the while enjoying a superb wine. The creme brulee dessert was the best we have ever tasted. The atmosphere is elegant with a roaring fire, crystal, and fine silver. When we arrived back to our room there was some champagne on ice and we chocolates on the night stand. You must spoil yourself and stay.

Our office staff had our annual Christmas party at the Inn's restaurant. The mood is set as soon as one drives onto the property and walks in the front door. Gorgeous! We were all made to feel welcome - greeted at the front door and offered a cocktail by the fire in a beautifual parlor. Dinner was nothing short of fabulous! The food was delicious, the staff and service was absolutely wonderful, and the setting very cozy and festive. This is the second time we've hosted our party here. We've gone other places that were nice but nothing touches Abingdon Manor. When asked where they wanted to go, it was a unanimous vote.

Simply put, they get all the details right.

One of the overall nicest, best kept BnB's I've stayed at. The Inn is a beautifully converted home with gorgeous bedrooms, updated bathrooms and a wonderful dining room. The service and atmosphere is what you would expect from Southern hospitality. Everything is done with a level of class, from the champaign with the turn down service, the in room fireplace with matches and a quick start log, to the seasonal decor.

Wifi is included, and the room we stayed in had a small, non obtrusive flat screen with HD cable.

If you choose not to have dinner, Florence is about 30 minutes away with lots of great restaurants.

Only potential negative is the proximity to the railroad (which was an advantage when the house was built in 1903). The staff provided ear plugs, but we never heard the train. If you are concerned about this, request a room on the west side (We stayed in the Red room)

The Abingdon Manor is a great romantic destination! Patty and Michael are great hosts, and Patty creates some wonderful dishes for dinner. We went there specifically for our anniversary, but, since it's so close to I-95 exit 181 in South Carolina (about 10 to 15 minutes), we can see where it'd be a great place to stay when going north or south on I-95, as the other 2 couples did who shared the Manor with us that night. Everything about the Abingdon Manor is excellent, from the furnishings, to the meal, to the wine selection, soft beds, soft towels - hey, we loved the place! The Abingdon Manor is the destination, as there's nothing much else around, but, once you get there, you won't want to leave anyway!
