4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2013

The Sanctuary is a beautiful destination to escape to. Rooms and hotel dated slightly but grand and aesthetically pleasing none the less. Service impeccable other than management not being able to ensure transportation services for guests which is extremely disappointing for such remote destination. Lack of attention to guests needs and lack of follow up makes this destination not so inviting compared to others.

Visited The Sanctuary for Thanksgiving with the family and had an incredible experience. The food, golf, and services are all world class. With easy access to rental bikes and shuttles, the other resorts, small town, and golf courses are simply an extension of The Sanctuary.

As it was Thanksgiving - the dinner prepared was out of this world and bottomless. By 5 pm the next day they had transformed from Thanksgiving to Christmas which really made for a great extension of the weekend and added new activities (tree lighting, hot chocolate station - great for kids).

For the golfers - don't miss this opportunity to play the ocean course, well worth every penny!

The rooms are massive and well appointed. Despite the hotel being full all weekend, we felt like we had the place to ourselves as we almost never had to wait for a shuttle, table, or seat at the bar.

Carolina charm, excellent restaurants for all tastes and budgets, world-class spa, fitness centre and racket club, beaches to die for. The Sanctuary has it all. We stayed here twice in the summers of 2009 and 2011 and this is the ultimate family holiday destination in the Deep South. Rooms are 5 star. Grounds are inviting for rambunctious children. The lounges are relaxing and a great place to unwind after a day on the beach.

We stayed in one of the condos at the property for Labor Day weekend, we were attending a destination wedding. The beach is beautiful, of course, and our beachfront unit was well equipped if a bit dated in the decor. Our meals at the Sanctuary were delicious, and we enjoyed the spa as well.

We only stayed for one night, and the weather wasn't good, but we still enjoyed the stay very much. At first it seemed very formal, and a little stuffy, but after a short time those things changed, primarily because of the friendliness of the staff. My wife took and enjoyed a yoga class, and I took a long walk on the beach (fortunately before the rain started). We hope to come back again and stay for a longer time. I would also like to play golf at a couple of the wonderful courses. Its a beautiful area and lots to do if a person wants to do things, and if the weather cooperates.

Simply stated the Sanctuary Hotel offers true 5 star service and ambiance. For any traveler in the area this is a must stay. Every element of this hotel is world class. There is nothing lacking and as other reviews have stated it provides the ultimate relaxing vacation. Rooms that look directly on to the ocean are preferable but come at an additional cost. The price is worth the expense so I suggest an ocean front room. Staff is fabulous. There was no element of my stay that could have been improved upon. This is about as good as a hotel can get.

Room Tip: Pay extra and get an ocean front room

The Sanctuary is a great resort located on the SC coast. Very relaxing and peaceful. The only comment would be the quality of the food was lacking relative to the price. The Inn at Palemetto Bluff is another resort with similar attributes but the food is far better.
