“Beautiful Resort!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

I have vacationed on Kiawah Island for 15 years but this was the first time I stayed overnight at The Sanctuary. Our room was very clean and pristine. The bathroom was quite large and had a separate shower and bathtub with a separate room for the toilet. We had a side ocean view which was lovely. The balcony was a bit small but it was adequate. The bed was comfortable as was the room temperature. The staff were extremely helpful and accommodating whether we were inside the hotel or on the beach. The pool and beach area were clean and well maintained. My only exception were the pool restrooms which could have been cleaner. There were cobwebs and spiders and other dead bugs in the stalls. I did not expect this at a 5 star hotel. All in all though, The Sanctuary was a wonderful place to stay and I would recommend it.

Room Tip: Make sure that you book a room that has an ocean view if possible.

This was our fourth trip to Kiawah Island and stay in The Sanctuary. We keep coming back since service is absolutely fantastic from the check in to the beach. There is always people there to serve you and help. There are many activities they offer including tennis and biking which makes it really attractive fro family vacation. Beach is well maintained, very clean and safe.
Several restaurants are available and our absolute favorite is Atlantic room on the golf course. You can bike to it (7miles from hotel) or use hotel shuttle which runs frequently.
Hotel lobby is fabulously decorated with nice views of the ocean and is perfect place to relax. You feel that magic begins the moment when you walk in.
Constructive criticism:
1) Indoor pool is very small and shallow (4 feet maximal) which makes is impossible to do thing like aqua jogging, etc. When weather is bad, the only other option is to drive to Charleston and do sightseeing.
2) Business center charges $7 for 15 minutes use of computer!!! I think this is absolutely outrages given, very expensive accommodation. You pay in season at least $500/day per room. It is hard to believe that you still need to pay for the use internet. Wireless internet in hotel room is free but it is very inconsistent. In short, just enjoy your vacation and do not count on conducting any serous business during your stay here since you will get frustrated.

We recently returned fro a vacation on Kiawah at the Sanctuary. It was amazing! Service was impeccable, the pools immacualte and the dining experiences wonderful! And then there is the ocean and beauty of the Sanctuary and it's surroundings. Unparalleled and we travel a great deal.

Wonderful staff and atmosphere. Always felt welcome and at home. Tretaed like royalty. The beach and pools were perfect.
The best ice cream at "Beaches and Cream" ice cream shop on the resort.
Perfect Barbeque at Mingo Bay.

Stayed at The Sanctuary for a business conference...this was one of the most exquisite stays I've ever had (despite the fact that I had a terrible cold the whole time). The main lobby is out of this world - gorgeous doesn't begin to describe it! The room followed suit in every way. From the balcony overlooking the amazing pool area and the Atlantic to the fantastic bathroom with soaking tub and rainshower, no detail was overlooked. The service was FANTASTIC. When my cold worsened, I panicked, as there are no drugstores (or anything) nearby...the late night concierge hunted down the keys to the lobby gift shop to help me troll for medicine. I also sprained my foot while at an event, and the folks at the front desk had someone bring me ice packs to my room in the wee hours. The food was wonderful - the breakfast buffet at the Jasmine Porch was incredible, and they catered a great SC-style luau for our business group our last night. Should I ever be able to afford it while not on my company's dime, The Sanctuary and Kiawah Island will be at the absolute top of my vacation list!

Room Tip: Most rooms have some view of the ocean, I think, but you want to make sure you get one!

Combine a perfect hotel with world class golf, wonderful food, South Carolinian charm. We were in a gorgeous separate house/villa. Had everything a luxurious home would have. Loved piano, little ballroom ... Hotel meeting rooms were perfect

This is our 4th visit to the Sanctuary and it keeps getting better. The service has been outstanding in every way. I would highlight our waiter at jasmine porch on Sunday night who helped us with our wine selection-wish I could remember his name, Maureen at jasmine porch for breakfast and Tracey Anne at loggerheads for lunch. But really, everyone should be commended for making our stay absolutely perfect. We will be back!

Room Tip: Try to stay in a room with a view of the lawn because it's fun to watch all the action.
