“Awesome Ocean View”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

We booked a one bedroom ocean view villa for our 4 night stay. On arrival at the resort reception we were greeted warmly and presented with our extremely informative arrival pack. A driver jumped into his vehicle and led us to our villa. The villa was wonderful with individual décor provided by the condo owner all the rooms were well appointed and the balcony had a great view of the ocean. The beach was wonderful and even in November we had some great walks with the dog on the beach. The various restaurants which we used had friendly, welcoming staff and the food was well cooked and presented. The main aim of the trip was to play the Ocean Course and what a fantastic experience this was, from the marvellous Ryder Cup clubhouse, to the pro shop staff and the welcome provided by the caddy manager on the range. As for the course it is everything I expected in great condition and my caddy made sure I got the best out of the course however, be under no illusion this is a very hard golf course and even as a single figure handicap golfer I was not tempted by the Tournament tees and by playing off the slightly shorter tees had a much more enjoyable time with the course still providing a very tough test but not feeling beaten up by it after 18 holes.

Room Tip: Windjammer ocean view villas had a wonderful sea view

Spend a great night at sanctuary . Staff was excellent. Upon our departure we turned right instead of left and the guard to the inner estate was a rude jerk. Left a bad taste in my mouth. And will choose to take my business elsewhere.

Much more than golf. Relaxing, homey, beautiful and close to historic Charleston. A great family trip and you should stay at least four day to enjoy the beach, excursions, nature, and beauty of the hotel.

My husband and I spent a few days this fall at the Sanctuary in Kiawah. Despite one bad weather day, the visit was wonderful. The hotel itself is beautiful and the space, furniture and decoration create the feeling of a classic old family home that, despite the size, feels very warm and inviting. The room was superb as was the service and staff. First class in all respects.

Our two days at Kiawah were simply beautiful. We stayed at one of the ocean-view Shipwatch condos with another couple. The accommodations were perfect; there was ample privacy and space at the condo for four of us, and the kitchen (which we hardly used) was nicely appointed and very clean. Beds were very comfortable. We enjoyed the great breakfasts at The Southern Kitchen.

We love Kiawah and have been going there since early 80s. Its a great resort, with fine golf, great beach and fine service generally, though we never have thought the food service/quality is up to the rest of the experience.

The Ocean Course, even with its surcharge, was in great shape is still a great experience and our forecaddie Donovan was best we've had (even compared with good ones in Scotland, American Club and Bandon). Osprey needs more tlc.

Over the years, we've stayed at various Villas and the Sanctuary. This trip began as a 2 night 4 guy golf trip, though that was changed when a participant was injured a few days before. Kiawah was easy to deal with and my wife and just rearranged the trip into a couples trip.

The only problem we experienced was that we thought the Seascape villa we stayed in was substandard. There were no shears on the rear window (raising a privacy issue), the bathroom was too small, fabric couch and bedspread were pretty ratty, we found/killed a single giant cockroach in the kitchen and the rocking chairs on the porch were too dirty to use.

Upon checking out we found that we could have upgraded very easily/cheaply to a better accommodation so we'll check that out next time.

We have stayed at many "first class resorts", the Greenbrier, the Biltmore in AZ, and the Princeville in Kauai, but this is by far the most First Class. The attention to details was impecible. We played Turtle Point Golf Course and the Osprey course. Both were beautiful. A two night stay with 36 holes of golf is not enough time to enjoy the other outstanding amenties.Dining at Tomasso's and the Ocean Room was outstanding

Room Tip: An ocean front room is breathtaking!
