Sure there are other beaches and towns to explore, some may be cheaper, some more expensive, but I haven't found one yet that can compete with what Kiawah has to offer. Beautiful beaches that are not crowded (even over the Labor Day weekend!), well manicured land, amazing golf courses, amenities within a short bicycle ride.
Kiawah Island is also close to Charleston and a few hours to Savannah, so you can take a day trip and go exploring. There is a LOT to see, eat and learn about in both cities.
But back to Kiawah Island,I would recommend renting bicycles and taking in everything the island has to offer. And after a nice long day of riding bikes and relaxing at the beach, top it off with a fantastic meal at Chez Fish.
It's a small place and has an almost "dive" appearance to it, but do not let the looks deceive you. I recommend the daily special, it doesn't really matter because everything on the menu is phenomenal. I never leave with an empty plate, and I'm a big guy! Haha
