“Sterile, Wall to Wall Concrete, Won't Return...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2010

Rows and rows (very high density) townhouses separate the hotel from the beach. Costly rooms with balconies are in earshot of the open air dining area and pool. The place is a concrete jungle...with more rows of sterile shops nestled on yet another concrete platform.....(Is the designer better known for work in the underground parking lot development business?) Noise, noise, noise from the hotel pool area...all day and well into the night. If you enjoy listening to shouting and screaming and crying, and have a passion for concrete, this is your place. If you don't, don't stay here. The hotel bills its restaurant as ''one of the finest, intimate dining experiences in the Charleston area". IT'S NOT!! The kitchen is mediocre; the lighting is operating theatre bright. The front desk staff are completely unhelpful, (although very practiced in 'appearing to care' ). The valet parking attendants are most helpful and pleasant. We did not experience the 'dirty room' problem described by other reviewers. Our room was very clean. The beach, once you get there, is of course beautiful. Next time, we'll find other accommodation.

Girls' weekend 2nd year in a row. We choose the 3bd village suite - perfect accommodations for 5 girls. Spacious and well appointment interiors - great beds. The balcony has incredible views of the resort/ocean and very spacious, perfect setting for relaxing and socializing. From the valets to the housekeeping to the maintenance guys that assisted with the stereo - friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The setting of the resort is the ideal balance between ocean and activities with a short drive into Charleston.

Even though this trip was a girls' weekend, I have highly recommended this resort to my family and friends. Wild Dunes is very safe and offers a wide variety of activities to please everyone. We were only disappointed on Sunday because that was the end of our vacation. However, we will be returning as soon as possible!

We stayed in the Village Garden. It was outstanding!!!! 1,275 sq villa, full granite kitchen, washer/dryer, marble bathrooms, cleaned daily, 2-bedrooms and super clean. The house keeping staff cleaned the dishes in the sink daily and ran the dishwasher! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Room service/ restaurants were all Delicious. Had the best collard greens ever! Lobster BLT, sweet potato fries, fish tacos and the peach cobbler. Everything was hot and fresh. The mustard based BBQ was out of this world!

Staff was friendly and helpful!! This is the way to see the Isle of Palm.

We traveled with 4 yr old twins and 14 yr old. We stayed at the beach all day and swam in the pool all night. Everyone was so friendly!

Can't wait to go back!!!!!!!!!!!

My husband and I stayed at the resort for four nights and exchanged vows on the beach while we were there. The entire beach is beautiful and the whole resort was breathe-taking! Staff was very helpful, from the spa to the maid service. The only thing I was disapointed in was the restuarants. The breakfast was a large variety but it was just ok for the price. The food was VERY expensive and not really that good. The resort is huge so one draw back is if you want to leave to go shopping or go out for the day you have to tip for your car everytime. It was a beautiful place to get married and the pictures were awesome. I am sure we will be back in a few years.

Hotel grounds are nice but the customer service is not up to par. While the valet service was excellent, (one valet even gave us Charleston sightseeing tips) the desk staff at the Boardwalk Inn was distracted and disappointing. I had to complain twice about the loud corporate party going on two nights in a row in a suite right next door to our room--and then, no apologies from the staff..even though they could clearly hear the noise all the way out to the front desk. One night, the party ended at 2:30 am.
I think they were more interested in having the corporate business return next year. We won't be back.

Oh Charleston! Where to go when you're in town for only a couple of days and want to be close to the beach? Thought Wild Dunes on Isle of Palms might be the answer.

And it was. Somewhat. Proximity is key here, and the beaches are a plenty, for the most part very clean and spacious - - but as other reviewers have noted, it is indeed quite a hostage of a resort and it's a $50 cab ride one way from downtown Charleston (although nearby Mount Pleasant's got supermarkets and great little bars and restaurants a long the water). Wild Dunes offers home and condo rentals and also have a hotel on their property. We stayed at their Boardwalk Inn hotel.

This resort is absolutely perfect if you're a family with a bunch of kids. This place caters to the family set, the wedding package set, the business convention set, and... that's about it. This place is in no way a place for young couples or even just couples in general. Babies and children run a-muck, it's noisy (classic rock booms from the beach bar ALL day in between children shrieking in the pool) and the whole resort area shuts down around 10 pm. Lame. (and watch out for their Sunday/Monday restricted hours too - which we were unaware)

Weddings and conventions run the joint and at a moment's notice certain parts of the Boardwalk Inn and the adjoining Grand Pavillion will be closed or unavailable in deference to them, which sucks.

They offer 3 pools. No deeper than 4 1/2 ft each. 2 located on the Grand Pavillion near the beach. The one in the boardwalk inn is more tame and less noisy, but you've got to cross through to the boardwalk to get to the beach. No hot tubs. Really uncomfortable pool lounge chairs from the circa 1980's. Sparse beach bar (6 chairs?) closes at 5 pm and the food that's served there is uber-mediocre. Boardwalk Inn's restaurant, Sea Island Grill, is nothing to write home about and is seriously overpriced.

You are nickel-ed and dimed everywhere you go. You are charged a daily resort fee every day of your stay yet you still need to pay for beach chair and umbrellas rentals ($35 for a full day), amongst other things.

The Boardwalk Inn itself is a nice building with a gorgeous lobby. Service is pleasant and helpful (especially the valet service). Rooms are sizeable, with big bathrooms, but they are in no way luxurious. We paid for an upgrade $38 dollars a night for an ocean view (which really wasn't, if you're on the fourth floor in the corner and have a side balcony) The bathroom needed serious updating - shabby painting, flaking painting inside the shower with an outdated shower/bath combo, very disappointing. They did offer bathrobes, but not nearly enough bath towels. Toilet's flushing system also ran - a lot. The beds and bedding also needed serious overhaul, they need to change out the metal spring mattresses for much more comfortable ones, and also add in a light duvet and better pillows - I did not sleep well here at all.

Yes, they offer activities, two golf courses, bike rentals (do not pay for a full day, there isn't enough biking to be done on the resort that will last you a full day and the routes are very limited) and tennis - and that is a nice perk if you are there longer than a few days, or are there for a business convention or you're trying to entertain the kiddies. Most of the resort is residential (and they always remind you of the real estate purchasing possibilities at every turn), so you are limited to which areas you are permitted to go (one area in particular that is very close to a gorgeous beach is gated and locked down to the public) and frankly speaking, the whole place is a sleepy-retirement-esque gated-no-trespassing type of community. Personally, this was not for me. Isle of Palms is not a beach town with local flavor. It's more fabricated and not very authentic.

I would not return here - I guess, unless I had a big family in tow and wanted to entertain both the young and older contingent equally. The only plus of this place is the proximity to the gorgeous beach, and that's all.

We had reserved a 2 bedroom family suite. Upon arrival, we had to wait over 15 min until the valet /bellboy finally helped us with the luggage.

They gave us a room, but the room had only one bed, not three as we had paid for. Well, they never told us we had connecting rooms and the door between the rooms was locked. The rooms however, were great.

Maid service was awful, simple awful. They forgot to give us new towels, didn't remove dirty towels, didn't vacuum, didn't show up for the turn dow service (we had requested for the sofa bed after being on hold for over 5 min). We had to make three phone calls on one day alone to get stuff they way is should be.

Location and beach are great. However, at times 4 out of 4 pools were closed due to maintenance and weddings. On Saturday evening, I couldn't find a place to go swimming with my daughter. Private parties and maintenance everywhere.

The local grocery store is also horribly overpriced.
