“Disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2008

We stayed 2 nites at the Palms Hotel. There was mold in the bathroom, it needed a good scrubbing. The bathtub had sand, I had to clean it before using it. The second day we put the "please service" card in the door when we left for the beach, and when we returned that nite the card was turned around to "do not disturb" and we had no fresh linens or our room cleaned. We were across from the elevator which was very loud with commotion until late, please make sure you do not accept a room in front of the elevator! The location of the building was the nice part of the stay- directly on the beach.

There were waaaaay to many things that were not "right" with our stay.
1st, you park a block away in a gravel parking lot behind some stores. Though nothing happened to my car, I was uneasy about the parking location.
2nd, double beds were awful. My husband went to the desk to complain and they said, "well, we can send someone up to your room to flip the mattress". Through no fault but my own and thanks to booking with the stringent rules of Expedia (never will use them again etiher), we could not get our money back.
3rd, the coffee pot looked like it had been used for about twenty years. Mold in the pot and burnt on stains. No way did we even try using it. Strabucks is about three miles away thank goodness.
4th, the extra sink in the room would be great if it didn't have such a slow drain. It appeared to be in need of Drano.
Last but certainly not least, there are bars on either side of the hotel with outdoor music. That's fine until bedtime. We could hear both bands/singers at the same time around 10:00 p.m. when we decided to go to bed.
Based on the above, you decide if you should try it.

Traveler beware!! The information and pictures on the hotel website are very misleading. The hotel room I stayed in was dark, dreary and very dirty. The floors were sticky, there was hair everywhere, there were stains on the bedspreads that looked like blood, peeling paint...the list goes on. The walls were so thin that I was unable to sleep one entire night due to noisy guest partying in the open breezeway outside of my room. I had to call down to the front desk twice, but that didn't help. The front desk was unsympathetic upon check-out. Don't be deceived...never stay here.

The Palms Hotel always strives to exceed our guests expectations, and we are always focused on the cleanliness of our rooms and hotel. We value the comments of all our guests and are constantly looking for ways to improve our hotel. Anytime we have a noise complaint we address it. The Palms Hotel website has the actual pictures of our hotel and we want to only portray the product that we have. It is our goal to make sure every guest has an enjoyable stay.

The room was a little worn looking, but was very roomy and had a great ocean view! We had a king room that also had a couch that opened into a queen bed. My parents had a room with two beds and the same type of couch. The staff was great! We didn't eat there, so can't comment on that, or the breakfast lady. There are friendly restaurants on either side of the Palms with decent non-gourmet food. If you are a member of the VFW, it is about five doors down the beach and has drinks for about half the price of the other bars on the beach. We had a very nice stay at The Palms Hotel!

Parking on the Isle of Palms is scarce, but we do have a lot that is reserved for our guests that is across the street. Due to fire regulations, the space underneath our hotel is for loading and unloading only. All of our mattresses at The Palms hotel are less than 2 years old. The coffee pots in the rooms are cleaned by housekeeping each day. The drains in the rooms are maintained on a regular schedule. We always do our best to accommodate a guest’s needs when they bring a concern to our attention. We are located between two restaurants that have live music during the summer. They are allowed by the city to play until 10pm on week days and 11pm on weekends. We want every guest to have the best stay possible, and always welcome their comments.

We just arrived back home, Michigan, from a 4 night stay at the Palms. I have to say I was very disappointed in our stay. The hotel room was pretty dirty. The carpet and bathroom floors were very dirty ;-( The TV remote was broken & the furniture itself in the hotel room was also dated and dirty. The balcony was full of bird droppings and the balcony furniture (plastic) was so old that my husband sat on one of the chairs and it busted. A beautiful island and beach loved it. I will not stay at this hotel again I would rather sleep in my car. We do plan on going back to the isle, but will either seek the seaside inn or rent a condo/house on the beach. Again very disappointed in our stay;-(

It took over 10 minutes to check in. One woman stayed on the phone with a customer while the other one sat in the back. When the one sitting in the back finally came forward to check us in she was incredibly rude.

The room had a beautiful view of the ocean, but was unfortunately dirty. Many of the lights did not work and the ironing board was broken. In the middle of ironing, the board fell on my mother’s toe and bruised it badly. When we told the staff about the board their response was simply, “Oh.” Absolutely no apology or offer to replace the board was given.

If you are looking for a great view and don’t mind a dirty room or rude staff, I recommend you stay at The Palms Hotel. If you want more than a view, I suggest you book somewhere else.
