“Quiet, Beautiful Views, Great Staff.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2012

Stayed one week, hated to leave. Staff very friendly and helpful. Especially Carolyn and Sebastian. The views out of our fourth floor unit were spectacular, dolphins, and watching the salt marsh change with the tides. Rooms were exceptionally clean, some furniture (sofa) a little worn, but overall a great experience.

Room Tip: The higher up floors have the best views.

A very nice time share. Great views, easy access to boating actives and long walks on a beautiful marina. Rooms clean and well maintained. It is an older facility that has considerable charm and comfort.

This is a spacious time share in a desirable location. Unfortunately, the interior reminds us of an era more like 20 years ago. Furniture is dated and decor themes are no longer chic. The complex backs on to marshlands, and a waterway that make for beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Staff is competent. An upgrade would launch this site into "must stay" territory.

We stayed the first week of September, through a timeshare exchange with Interval International, and absolutely loved the resort! We were on the 4th floor of the building that was closest to Broad Creek and had an excellent view of the creek and the marsh, saw dolphins almost every day from our balcony, loved watching the boats, kayaks and stand-up paddle boards go by. Plenty of room (it was just my husband and I), the furnishings are not the most modern but it was very comfortable (especially the bed). We had a problem with water leaking from the refrigerator the first day, but maintenance responded to our call within 30 minutes and it was fixed. Because it was off-season, there was never a problem getting a lounge chair at either of the pools. There were numerous activities going on at the resort every day, and the staff was always friendly and helpful. We rented 2 bikes from the resort, the price was the same as from any of the bike rental companies on the island and the bikes were in great condition - really enjoyed biking over to Shelter Cove for ices (great little store called Frosty's, had some of the best ices we've ever had!), or to have dinner at some of the restaurants there.
All in all, we had a great trip and loved the resort - and we are planning to stay again next year!

Room Tip: Osprey building, 3rd or 4th floor has a great marsh view. Sunset building has a nice view of one of...

We exchanged through Interval from our typical Hyatt property (Coconut Plantation) in Florida, which served as a point of comparison. Judging by some of the reviews here, we actually had relatively low expectations. Now having experienced the property, those reviews seem to be less about the quality of the resort and more about expectations that the resort couldn't possible meet. There are certainly still some things for Sunset Pointe to improve upon, but overall, I would certainly return here.

A couple quick things about what this resort is not so future travelers are clear. It is not beachfront. If you've looking for a Hilton Head Marriott that is beachfront, this isn't it. It does not have any onsite dining options. This complaint puzzles me anyway, as these are timeshare units equipped with full kitchens - what is the need for onsite dining? It is not brand new. The buildings are certainly older, but the rooms themselves are quite up to date.

Let me go through the strengths of the resort, then areas of improvement. As noted by others, the staff is definitely a strong suit. Every staff member we interacted with was friendly and willing to help, from taking our family pictures to remembering that we had a sleeping child the one night we needed a repair done in the room. Second, the grounds of the resort are immaculate and well-kept. The pools, gazebo, and fire pit areas are gorgeous and all overlook Broad Creek. I can certainly understand that in peak season the pools might be a bit crowded, but for our Labor Day week, they were near empty. The room itself was clean and had all the amenities we needed, updated with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, standard Marriott bedding, and flat screen TVs. The non-slip tile in the entry-way, kitchen, and bathrooms is a huge plus for a family with wet children coming in from the pool or beach. Lastly, there were a large number of activities to choose from across the course of the week - I really don't see how any objective reviewer over the summer could say that this resort lacks in this area.

Three areas of improvement: the living room furniture absolutely needs updating. The couch and two chairs in our unit were worn and tired and need to be replaced. They were certainly clean and perfectly usable, but don't meet the standards of the rest of the unit. A small nit - all the doorknobs could use replacing - just look a bit old. Lastly, the Internet in our room went on and off all week, which was incredibly annoying. The staff did as much as they could to ID the problem and had the internet company come fix it, but it still went off and on even after they came. I don't know if it was just our unit, or that we were bouncing between routers, but it was really the only part of our stay which was aggravating.

Relative to our Hyatt stays, this particular property falls just below, but still worthy of the maintenance fees we pay. It had everything we needed for an enjoyable vacation, and the staff made us feel quite welcome. While not oceanfront, the views over the creek are gorgeous, and it does make for a more intimate/quieter feel to the resort. We are actually going back to Hilton Head for another stay at Marriott's Barony Beach Resort in October - it will be interesting to have that point of comparison relative to this property. I would recommend this property to others considering a Hilton Head vacation.

I am a Marriott Vacation Club owner and visited this hotel recently with my family. The establishment was very clean, typical of Hilton Head, and peaceful. It is within walking distance of the Shelter Cove Harbor, and has beach access through Palmetto Dunes (directly across the W. Hilton Pkwy). While it is not within most people's walking distance to the beach (1.8 mi), there is a shuttle that will take you to and from the beach for free. Additionally, there is a morning beach walk activity at the resort where they drive you to the beach and walk with you along the beach, answering questions about Hilton Head.

While I enjoyed my trip to this resort, it took a while to adjust as it doesn't feature many of the amenities of other Marriott Vacation Clubs, including: a restaurant on site, a bar, large pool, games, etc. There are activities at the resort, but they are not as diverse as at other locations. Also there are two pools, but they are smaller than those of other MVCs. The room decor also is EXTREMELY outdated. And I must say, I was disappointed to have a two bedroom suite where one of the bedrooms had two TWIN sized beds. I haven't slept on a twin since college, and the mattress was very uncomfortable. This is why I am rating this resort a 3 and not a 4, as the beds were unacceptable.

If you are looking for a peaceful Hilton Head vacation with views of the creek, and beach access, this resort will suit your needs. If you are looking for a hip and happening on the beach resort with a great bar, beautiful rooms, and active entertainment, this is not the resort for you.

This is the third time in five years we've stayed at this property. It's a short walk to the marina, that has several nice places to eat and small shops. Though not on the beach, Marriott offers a free shuttle service from 8:30 am to 8:00 pm. The drivers are helpful especially if you have coolers, beach chairs, etc to take to the beach. Great way to keep your car clean of sand! The building we stayed in recently upgraded to stainless steel appliances. Beds are always comfortable. Marriott now has a golf central phone number for discounted tee times which is a nice addition. We have enjoyed in the past watching the dolphins from the balcony, going on kayak tours out of the marina, and having a first class view of the fireworks held on Tuesday in season just off the marina. If going out to eat at one of the popular restuarants on the island, check with the concieger first for great advice. Our unit this time did not have a great view of Broad Creek, but still had a great time.
