“Tourist trap, a waste of money”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

Our family of 5 went to view the lighthouse, and we were extremely disappointed in the visit. It was about $18 to enter, and the entire thing reeked of a tacky tourist trap. After each 10 steps or so, there was one or two attempts to get your money (e.g., penny squishing machine, photo booths), jammed next to a few bits of history. You could hear children begging their parents for money at each stop. When we made it to the top, we were expecting a historical museum. Instead, there was a store at the top, each item extremely over-priced (e.g., $20 for a whistle). The store had typical touristy items that you would find at a gas station, such as coffee mugs, t-shirts, stuffed animals, etc. A disappointment to say the least.

“LOTS of shopping if that is what you are looking for”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2013

The lighthouse, built privately, is only a sideshow to the numerous stores, marinas, and habor/saltmarsh views. It's definitely a touristy area but should be part of your HHI visit as it is a "destination". Many stores, and the various open areas between them had outside benches for those not so inclined to shop much. Made my time at the place more palatable as the women in our group shoped. The marina is interesting to explore as it docks a variety of boats and larger yachts. If you have never been to an authentic (used for navigation) lighthouse, and probably won't, then climb this one. If you've climbed navigational lighthouses then you probably won't be happy with the price to climb andtheend view.

“Nice piece of history”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2013

Walking up to the top of the lighthouse you get to read and see pictures of the history of the place. Not for people who have knee problems or claustrophobic issues. it can get a little tight. :)

“Laid back”

They rely in their position. Did not really try to help. Not helped by a very unfriendly waitress. Food mediocre. Prices fair for what it was.
