We spent a week at the Grande Ocean and are seriously considering a return trip next fall. This was our first trip to Hilton Head and we don't golf. We traveled with our 4 year old and my parents.
We had a two bedroom unit in Dolphin. Although we didn't have an ocean view (we were told those units were reserved for owners) we had a very nice view of the lagoon and pool and the ocean was a very short stroll away.
The resort is very nice with a number of pools and hot tubs. There are wading pools for toddlers and the larger pools are only 4 foot deep at the deepest so my four year old enjoyed all the pools. There is one indoor pooll and hot tub. All of the facilities were kept up and clean. My one minor complaint is the hot tubs were set too hot. At one point they were 104 and my feet turned red from just putting them in to test the water. The unit was very large with private bedrooms (king and two doubles) a jacuzzi tub in the master suite and showers in both. Our building had been updated and it did look like a typical Marriott but that's ok as we were there for the ocean and not the room.
The beach is very clean and you can rent chairs and umbrellas if you want. We were here during low season so we had no trouble finding a beach chair or a spot on the beach.
There are grocery stores and other shopping nearby but nothing within walking distance. You can rent bikes onsite. They also have a Pizza Hut and a small grocery onsite. The pool bar makes great drinks with real fruit!
There were some kids activities but again this was low season so not much. Internet access is available if you bring your computer or there is an internet cafe a short drive away.
