“Great Location but ?s About The Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

It is in a great location, right next to Sea Pines. Rooms were the standard 2BR time share layout. The pools (4 outdoor+1 indoor) and grounds were pretty good for a time share. The weather was awful for Easter week so the indoor pool was used every day. There were some activities for kids (2 outdoor ping-pong tables+2 outdoor pool tables) and a few other kid related activities during the day.

Overall it's a pretty nice time share resort. But I'm not sure about the value. When we go to the beach, we want to stay on the beach, open the patio door and hear the waves and we know what it costs to do that. With that in mind paid the AAA rate, got a time share presentation credit and worked hard at check-in to get an oceanfront unit but felt underwhelmed at the end of the week when I got the bill. The pool bar is close to the beach, but again I wouldn't say it was a real value. Maybe it was the rain, the 50/60 degree tempratures, or the fact we stay in oceanfront condo in Hawaii for about the same price in the summer, but we will probably look at other options in the future.

Room Tip: Oceanfront, as close as you can get to oceanfront in Hilton Head, rooms are in the Sea Horse and San...

Marriott's Grande Ocean timeshares, wonderful location on the beach in Hilton Head.
Still one of the best timeshares on an island with many options.
Spacious well maintained 2 bedroom units ..Great for families, ride your bikes on the beach, .
Lots to see and do, restaurants galore, lovely Sea Pines plantation, nature preserves, shore birds, alligators...always a pleasure to return.

This was a week of relaxing, making new friends at the activities offered at the resort, and bike riding. The check-in was quick and friendly, incredible staff, good parking, well kept grounds and the unit was clean and well supplied. I enjoy cooking and the kitchen had all I needed. If you choose to eat out there are plenty to choose from. Churches, shopping and usually good opportunities to listen to some great music are near-by. My husband enjoyed having the bike available on the resort and having a pass to go to Sea Pines in the car or on the bikes was a plus!. We enjoyed the various nature parks and the historical sites near-by.

Room Tip: We had a partial beach view from our balcony, it mostly looked on the garden area which was beautifu...

Our family of 5 (2 parents, 2 teens and 1 10-year-old) LOVED the spaciousness of our 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom condo. Absolutely gorgeous. We looked over the hot tub and heated lap pool. The gardens were beautiful, in spite of the mediocre temps we had all week. All staff encountered were terrific. Totally "at your service" each time we called about something. Loved the concierge service who called the week before our visit and booked lots of dinner reservations for us. Pleased with all their recommendations! Would definitely return!

Room Tip: Don't worry about not having ocean-view. Most rooms here don't, but look onto the beautiful...

This was the perfect place for our party of six. The rooms are huge with every accomodation. There is a full kitchen stocked with dishes and a dishwasher, laundry room, huge whirlpool tub, nice patio, comfortable beds, three televisions and spacious living room area. The courtyard is beautiful with two pools and a hot tub. There is free wifi too which you don't find at all the Mariott's. The beach was beautiful and clean. They had a list of fun activities each day and a free movie each night, we watched Les Miserables. It was chilly when we went but otherwise you could walk to the Coligny Beach area with great shopping and it is a short drive to Sea Pines from the resort. Every person we encountered from the staff was super friendly. A lot of local restaurants offer a 10% discount when you mention you are staying here as well. My only suggestions: the sheets could have been softer, the outdoor hot tub hotter, especially on such a chilly weekend.

Room Tip: The courtyard view was just fine, ocean view rooms were booked.

Our group of four went to Hilton Head to relax, enjoy the beach, grab some good eats, view wildlife, and explore the nearby cities of Savannah and Charleston. Golf was not on the agenda however. We got most of what we wanted, except the weather was frigid, barely breaking into the low 50s. However, it never rained.

The resort accommodations were top notch as is with most Marriott Vacation Club properties. Our unit in the Sand Castle building was extra large compared to other Marriott resorts. The dining table could hold 8 if there were enough chairs. There was also a separate laundry room with washer, dryer, and iron. The living room and master bedroom had large windows, and in our unit, they faced the beach! The master bedroom has a king bed with attached bath with whirlpool tub and shower. The second bedroom had two full beds, so the unit could hold 8 people albeit a bit crowded with just one common bath (master bath access required walking past the bed area and is not convenient for common use). The kitchen is spacious and has microwave, range, and most tools and appliances need to cook a typical meal. The resort has about 8 common barbeques which are well maintained and cleaned every day. We cooked two dinners of steak and fish. These dinners were much better than any nearby restaurant.

The resort grounds are equally deluxe. I did not count the number of pools but they were in abundance. We only used the indoor pool for the resort’s water aerobics. The resort is well suited for family vacations with children’s play areas and casual ambiance. The grounds are neat and beautiful. A white sandy beach is a directly accessible from the resort with multiple footpaths. The water is shallow and should be safe for kids but I do not know about any dangers spots. During high tide, the amount of beach for dry sitting gets a bit narrow. On the other hand, the wet parts of the beach are hard packed, so you can ride your bike on the beach without extraordinary effort. There only restaurant on site is for casual pool food.

Parking is free and there were adequate parking spaces. The internet access is excellent in the unit and common areas. It had none of the annoying characteristics, such as requiring a password or disconnecting you when your phone sleeps. You probably could get serious work done here if so inclined. We did not ask for any service during our stay so I cannot comment on that aspect, but we did find that the whirlpool tub in our room did not power on.

Hilton Head is known for golf, but may not be known for great wild life viewing. The Low Country has great viewing areas because it is mostly swamp, the perfect environment for many birds and alligators. Savannah is an hour south and Charleston about an hour and half north. Hilton Head has many great grocery stores to minimize your need for restaurants. The entire Low Country area has an overabundance of restaurants, although we did not visit any great ones. Hilton Head visitors tend towards the older side and yet one of the most popular activities is bike riding. We had a great 10 mile ride, half on the beach and the other half back on a recreation path in the South Pine development. In summary, we had a great time without playing any golf.

As owners of 6 Marriott timeshare weeks at Shadow Ridge in Palm Desert CA and Grand Chateau in Las Vegas, we'd trade any of them for ownership at Grand Ocean. While we prefer Hilton Head, there are several other Marriott properties on Hilton Head, but we prefer Grand Ocean.

It location just outside Sea Pines on the ocean is perfect. Most of the ocean views from the condos are excellent and the property is gorgeous. Manager Gary and his staff - from the desk to maintenance to bicycle rental - make you feel like a resident.

Marriott does a great job of making sure the beach is filled with only Marriott folks. The highlight is Pool Bar Jim's - the best outdoor bar west of the islands. Owner Jim and John and Ben make the best fruit drinks anywhere and they don't lack for fruit or spirits. They too make us feel like friends.

The only drawback is poor internet service. They say they have fixed it, but have not. When the weather is poor and everyone is inside on their laptops and pads, the signal is low to non-existent.

Come on Marriott! Spring for a T-1 line. Charge $1.00 a week or day and you would cover the cost. Otherwise, this property makes me glad I'm a Marriott owner.

Room Tip: just don't get stuck in the back row of buildings on the lower floors. the foliage will block a...
