We made a quick reservation to the Omni, and were happy with our 7 night stay. But there were a few things they needed to improve upon.
First off for the Pros: Gorgeous resort with lush landscaping throughout, 3 nice size out door pools (2 family pools & one adult pool). All pools had tons of lounges and towels and were very clean. We ordered frozen libations often there--they were 9.00 each. Rooms were adequate. Staff was extremely acommodating. The resort had 2 hot tubs (should have had more for all the people that stayed there) by one of the family pools. Each one would hold about 8 people. Resort was great in the fact if the patrons were quiet they would let you swim or use hot tub all night (again quiet was the key). The walk from a couple of the pools to the beach was quick and a flat walk (no steps). Boy we liked that alot for we shlep so much to the beach: chairs, boogie boards, coolers and all the other beach stuff. The spa on site was $$ --and hard to get appts at times. The fitness center was open 24/7--nice !!
There were 2 firepits--which we didn't use--too hot. The courtyard had a singer during happy hour --he played many popular 70's songs. XO Bar was only opened on Thurs/Fri night. Most people used the poolside Buoy Bar for lunch or early dinner .
Another Pro is the site is gracious enough to allow small dogs for a reasonable fee of 100.00 per week. They have designated rooms in the south building on floors one and two for them.
Cons: One huge one--wifi connection was aweful. We never got service on our new iphones unless we left the site. And it was spotty at times on the island. I was told that it was not just the OMNI but all over Hilton Head. Omni has NO business center. NONE. I am a businesswoman and between spotty iphone coverage and no business center (and my laptop broke first day there) it was quite disappointing. The front desk was gracious enough to allow me to use an ipad they had but they had the security levels up so high I couldn't acess many of my real estate sites needed for work. The ipad has to be used only in the lobby.
Overall it was a great vacation and the outdoor pools made the vacation worth it. Heads up--saw many people complaining about the location of the rooms. Mine was oceanview but it showed more of the courtyard and pools than that of the ocean. I paid a high fee for oceanview. I am an avid traveler and would have called my oceanview more of a partial oceanview.(In the future if I go again I will book a courtyard or resort room(overlooks the parking lot) for my oceanview room was NOT worth the extra $$. The ONLY true ocean view is the oceanfront rooms which are very expensive. Some more room tips---stay on floors 3 and above. AND the best building I feel is the NORTH building. It overlooks the adult pool and is a quicker distance to the beach. Please speak in length to the reservationist at the site when booking so you know what kind of room you are getting.
Oh they have a shuttle that goes 3 miles in either direction. If you golf you HAVE to book a tee time on the Trent Jones Course next to resort.. It was a GREAT course with some holes overlooking the ocean !!
Lastly overheard some people in the pool who made reservations through P....eL...e and they got much cheaper rates than those of us booking thru the front desk.
