“Great Trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2009

We took our first trip to Hilton Head Island and have stayed at Marriott Hotels frequently when we travel so we decided to try the Marriott Monarch time share in Sea Pines. We stayed in a 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo and had a wonderful time. The room was very clean and comfortable and included everything we needed for our stay. The grounds were beautiful and well maincured. We really enjoyed the pools and hot tubs and the bicycle rental for the great bike paths on the island. We took two of our grandchildren who are 9 and 11, we had not been there very long when they asked "Can we come back here next year?" They also enjoyed the ping pong, shuffleboard and other outdoor games. We will be back!

We stayed at the Monarch over Columbus Day holiday. Location was great - in Sea Pines and right on the beach. Our unit was well-furnished and comfortable - large master bedroom with huge bathroom, and small bedroom with 2 twin beds for the kids. Kitchen was small but well-furnished, living room comfortable with tv and DVD, and there was also a washer/dryer and small balcony. Property was old but seemed well-maintained. On property are 2 pools, a few hot tubs, and right behind the pools is the beach. The weather was beautiful that weekend so we enjoyed a lot of time on the beach surfing the waves and enjoying the sand and warm weather. Bikes and beach chairs are available for rental from the Marriott. There are no restaurants or bars on property, but since our unit had a kitchen we cooked our own meals and brought a cooler with drinks to the pool and beach. Property also has an exercise room and DVDs for rental from the front desk.

We have been coming to Monarch at Sea Pines for 26 years and it continues to be the perfect vacation. The units are extremely well maintained. If I didn't know the units were 26 years old, I would think the resort was built in the last year or two. Each unit has a small washer and dryer which certainly reduces the amount of clothing you need to bring. The resort has a complete daily list of activities, so you never lack for things to do. This year we took the Gullah History tour of Hilton Head which was very interesting. The location of Monarch is the best on the island - right in the heart of Sea Pines Plantation. There are miles and miles of bike paths and one of the widest, most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. If you want to economize, there a number of grocery stores (Publix, Bi Lo) nearby. If you prefer to eat out, the island has over 200 restaurants. Our favorites areTapas, Dye's Gullah Fixin's, Truffle's, Redfish and the Sea Shack. If you are a golfer, there are three championship courses in Sea Pines alone. Next door to Monarch is the Sea Pines Beach Club which is a great place for a late afternoon cocktail. If you want to be very active, this is the perfect place; if you would prefer to just chill, you couldn't find a better place. We look forward to coming back again next year.

The Marriott Monarch is a lovely hidden oasis on the Atlantic ocean. We enjoyed our quiet vacation spot centally located in Seapines close to a lot that Hilton head has to offer. The villas are older in that it is the original vacation club.... but you would never know it. Our villa was beautifully furnished just as well as the newer ones. The garden view has gorgeous mature trees. Villa even had a nice hot tub for two along with all the other amenities the others have. A nice gym and starbucks coffee in the lobby. Loved the hammocks and the cabanas. Beach is spectacular!!

My Husband and I are owners at the Marriott's Ocean Pointe in West Palm Beach Florida/ Singer Island and we love it there. However, one summer we decided at the last minute that we'd like to invite our parents on a nice beach vacation with us. Since both of our parents live in NC and VA we decided to look into trading our Ocean Pointe for another Marriott location at a distance they could drive to. We called Interval International, they gave us a couple of options and when they described Monarch at Sea Pines to us it sounded perfect. I hadn't been on vacation with my parents since I was in my late teens so this vacation was especially important to me. My mom had just been diagnosed with COPD lung disease and was told she would soon require oxygen 24/7. When I first asked her if they would join us on a beach vacation in Hilton Head, she said no. She was concerned the sun & summer heat would be too much for her and that there would be too much walking to get from the parking lot to the villa. I assured her that this resort and had plenty of sun for those wanting to sun bath and plenty of shade for those who just wanted to relax and enjoy the scenery. She reluctantly agreed and when they saw the location and atmosphere of our villa room, mom was so relieved and absolutly fell in love with the peaceful, tranquil, charming atmosphere. She enjoyed the beautiful view from our balcony. It provided us just enough shade and sun depending on the time of day. Our room was on second floor, our balcony over looking the Koi fish pond. The view at night was just as beautiful. The pathways and landscapes are well lite at night. The court yard garden surrounding the pond was landscaped with lush plants with a walkway winding it's way over the pond and waterfall. There are relaxing swings at the pond's edge where you can sit and watch the fish and turtles swim. The short walk from our room to the pools and the pool side pavilion was a breeze for mom. On walk to play bingo under the pavilion we enjoyed sitting on the well placed benches along the walkway over looking the koi pond. We found perfect sunbathing spots out by the pools perfect for all of us to either enjoy the sun or shade while still being able to sit together. Our parents were amazed at how there was enough to do for each of our activity levels. There's something for everyone. There are outside grills for family cook outs. The year we went the resort had a cook out for everyone. We enjoyed live music on the dinner deck of the restraunt right next door. The resort has outdoor speakers playing tropical vacation music all day. We also went to the nearby Marina & shops and enjoyed a great dinner. We ate hand made ice cream while we sat under a couple of huge moss draped oak trees with chairs to sit while listening to a local musician. Our parents continue to thank us for inviting them on an unforgettable vacation at the Monarch at Sea Pines. Mom was so glad I was able to talk her into taking this vacation with us. Monarch is one of the original Marriott vacation resorts and they've done a fabulous job with continuing the impeccable upkeep and charm. Everyone of us felt right at home there. This was the last vacation we had with my mom before she passed away this past March 2009. Thanks to Marriott and to the beautiful atmospheric charm of the Monarch located in the most beautiful private area of Hilton Head island, Mom was able to realize that her ability to enjoy a beach vacation didn't have to be a thing of the past. Although we absolutely love our home resort at Ocean Pointe, we look forward to visiting Monarch at Sea Pines again and again.

This is about the fourth Marriott timeshare resort we have stayed at. For the most part, they are all pretty much the same. Our unit had new washer and dryer. The other appliances looked fairly new as well. The unit and resort are clean and in good repair. The linens and towels are great, as are the bath products. We had sun on our balcony practically the whole day, so even on cooler days, we found we could still sit outside. Bike rental on site (although the attendant isn't always there when he is supposed to be) and all the HBO channels. Lots of planned activities during the day but no pressure to join in or to attend a sales presentation.
On the down side, the water temperature in the shower fluctuates between very hot and cold. From most units, including ours, you cannot see or hear the ocean. All the pools but one are unheated and during our stay, the heat didn't come on in the lap pool until we had already been there for five days. The resort is redoing the hot tubs, so they were not available during our stay either. Internet is free but slow and if you like to eat in, kitchen equipment is minimal. And as someone else said, the units are not that big. We had a two bed/bath for two people. I think it would have been crowded for four.
Having said all that, we toured two other timeshares while we were on the Island. We plan to come back next year and it will probably be back to this resort.

We are new owners at Monarch Sea Pines and are very upset that despite the sign on our villa door saying this is a nonsmoking unit, we entered our villa for the first time recently to the nauseating stench of cigarette smoke! We did our due diligence prior to purchasing this unit, visited it last year and had a tour, and made our decision to purchase our timeshare week based on several criteria, one of which was what appeared to be a responsible anti-smoking policy. When my husband and I approached the general manager about this issue, she was rude, had no action plan in place to eliminate the stench from our unit, and essentially showed little concern for the health of the owners/guests. After a long argument, which in itself amazes me that management would argue so vehemently over a health issue they claim to care about, the manager finally agreed to come up to our unit to smell the stench herself and following this, agreed to give us, at no extra charge to us, an air cleaner. We thought we would have this for as long as we needed it to clear our air, but no, the next day, while we were out, someone came into our condo without our permission and took it away! Back to foul air. As I write this review, we are still here, wondering what else we will learn about this place on our first visit. No, we do not want to be moved to another unit. We want the unit week we purchased to be the nonsmoking unit we were promised at the time of sale. Hilton Head is beautiful, but all of this leaves a very bad taste with us, very literally. While cycling yesterday we came upon a sign at the beach saying Hilton Head Island, Non-Smoking, and had our first real laugh of the trip, at this bit of sardonic humour. We are Canadians from Ontario and enjoy the benefits of the most stringent anti-smoking laws in North America. I remain a proud Canadian and am incredibly disappointed with this resort in particular, and Marriott in general. So if you are seeking a healthy environment to vacation at, this is definitely not the place. Marriott does not enforce their no-smoking policies, and we were told this by the manager. Apparently they are too concerned with trying to earn a perfect 10 that anything goes, as long as each guest gives them a perfect 10. From Marriott's perspective it seems, smokers who endanger others are paying customers too, and Marriott obviously cares more about their money than anything else. For us, we are writing this place off most likely, as a big mistake. Lesson learned for next time. If you are a nonsmoker and care about your health, don't come here. Makes me wonder about all Marriott facilities.
