“Wonderful Vacation!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2014

We stayed here during our kids Spring Break week April 5-12th. This was our first time in Sea Pines and it was awesome! If you want a spot that's nice, somewhat quiet and tucked away from the action this is the place to be. From our villa We had a beautiful view of both the ocean and pool. The entire place is immaculately clean, beds are comfortable and kitchen is well stocked for your use.

Since there was no place to eat on the grounds I'm going to have to rate it s 4 instead of 5. Otherwise it's a 5 all the way! Great job Marriott! Keep up the good work!

Almost hesitate to post this, because I don't want it to become too popular! Rooms recently renovated, very clean, plenty of room for a family of four (2 teenagers). Had an ocean front room in the Azalea bldg. Peaceful and relaxing for us, kids could have plenty of freedom without us worrying about them. Love all the Sea Pines bike trails.

Don't know what was the best about this resort (property or staff). We had a beautiful view of the beach and if you love to walk beaches, this is the place. The property is updated and lovely. I believe it was just all updated last year. You can rent bikes for the week for 30.00 (or 10.00 per day) and ride through lovely Sea Pines.

The staff (especially Brent) are wonderful. Everyone has a smile and makes you feel at home. They will do anything to make your stay wonderful!

Room Tip: We had the 2nd floor, ocean view in the Azalea building - best view ever!

The grounds and the property are very well maintained and the beach is wide and beautiful. We enjoyed our week of long walks and bike rides despite the colder than normal weather.

We had not stayed in Sea Pines before and we found that it had pluses and minuses. The minuses definitely include the traffic and limited parking at this end of the island while the pluses include the concentration of shopping and the plethora of restaurants, even though we had to wait to be seated at 6:30pm on a Tuesday in Jan.

The staff was most helpful and attentive and gave us very good service. We liked Monarch and will probably return next winter for a sibling reunion.

Room Tip: Ask for an ocean view room. Most of the rooms do face the beach.

Absolutely loved the hotel, the room size / layout (we stayed in a 2 bed suite K, 2 T, sofa bed), all the hotel activities and amenities (large chess board, ping pong, shuffle board, bean bag toss, hammocks, lounge chairs, etc.)

Sea pines is beautiful!! Everywhere you look, and the beach is great!

Only issue we had was that check in is at 4pm and check out is 9am, a little stingy, We thought. We arrived at 1:30pm and thought we'd be able to check in, (being that they kick people out promptly at 9am - which we found out later on our trip). However, they took our name and number and told us that they'd call us when the room was ready. It wasn't until 3:50 that we for our room keys. Bummer.

We loved everything about the hotel though, and would likely go back.

We have stayed at a number of the Marriott facilities on Hilton Head. All are excellent, but we prefer the Monarch, where we are owners, for its placement behind the dunes in Sea Pines. The beach at this point of the island is very wide and hardened at low tide with few people on the beach - excellent for biking with miles to ride without obstruction of water intrusion. As active Seniors we enjoy the miles of bike paths in Sea Pines and the trails within the Forest Preserve. Returning to our unit after activity is very rewarding - comfortable and convenient.

Despite Marriott's promise of having smoke-free facilities, this one is NOT. This can be a bit of a shock when you walk into your villa and see ashtrays sitting around. This little tidbit of information does not seem to be included on their website, or least not obvious enough to get my attention. Had we known this, we would have selected a different resort. Apparently, smoking is allowed on the balconies. If you prefer not to experience second-hand smoke, then you only get to enjoy your balcony when no smokers are enjoying theirs.

As others have mentioned, there is major construction going on next door. We knew that when we booked the resort. We received several reminders regarding the construction. Our villa was in the Magnolia building, which is closest to the construction. If your bedroom is the master, on the poolside, the construction noise is negligible. If your bedroom is near the front door, the construction noise is very intrusive. You won't be able to sleep through it. Even more so when the guy with the leaf blower shows up early in the morning.

Speaking of the second bedroom, it has two twin beds. TWIN beds. So, if two couples are traveling together rather than a couple with kids, those beds are a misery. Twin beds? Who does that? An adult male cannot sleep in a twin bed comfortably. Granted, the bedroom is super small, but surely they could find a way to put two double beds in there. Geez.

The villa overall was very small, especially compared to other Marriott resorts on HHI that we have stayed at. But what really got me were the CHAIRS. There were chairs everywhere. You have this small living area and small dining area, and crammed in this small space were: three sitting chairs, one stool, six dining chairs, and three bar stools! Who are they expecting? It was so cramped and annoying we had to put some of the chairs in a closet just to have enough space to walk around comfortably.

I was surprised by the parking situation. It LOOKS like there's plenty of parking spots, but the reality is that we could never find one near our villa. Eventually we figured out that the close parking spots were being used by the cleaning staff, landscape staff, etc. Also, delivery trucks and service trucks pull right up to the entrance of the building and park there. The parking lot itself and the entrance area to the villa is dirty, stained, and not inviting whatsoever.

Other annoyances included loud noise from the pool area. This was in the winter with just a small group of kids swimming, playing, screaming at the pool. I can't imagine what the din must be like in the middle of summer. Due to the neighboring construction, bike access to the beach is via the muddy construction site, or carrying your bikes up/down stairs through the resort. The TVs in the bedrooms were surprisingly small. The remote controls didn't work quite right, perhaps they needed batteries. One of the living room lamps did not work. No in-room jacuzzi or fireplace.

I realize there's a lot of complaining in this review, and I'm sorry about that, but it's the way it was. Here are some pros:

The front desk staff were very courteous. We had a nice view from the top floor. Easy, quick walk from the resort to the beach. The beds and the pillows were VERY comfortable. They offer a varied list of interesting activities. We enjoyed the ping pong and chess area. The super large shower in the master bedroom was very nice.

We had a decent stay at this resort, but left feeling underwhelmed and disappointed, especially about the smoking and the broken promise. I probably wouldn't return unless there was no other Marriott available.

Room Tip: Magnolia building is closest to construction.
