“Intimate and Laid Back- Great Value!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2013

We love Monarch! We have stayed at all of the Marriott time share resorts on Hilton Head as we are owners who have converted to the new Destination Club points program. Monarch is one of our favorite resorts! it is small and does not have some of the amenities of the larger resorts, but all of the units are very close to the beach and it is very laid back, quiet and relaxing. The lack of live music by the pool and all sorts of fun activities for the kids is a plus for us. If you are looking for a relaxing stay at a quiet resort right on the ocean with a nice condo to stay in, this is the place for you.

Although he units are not quite as large and new as some of the other resorts, they are always clean and well maintained and are very nice. If you are staying with Destination Club points the fact that Monarch is cheaper than the other ocean front resorts at Hilton Head more than makes up for the units being a little smaller.

The room was very clean, and nicely decorated. But there was something off about the place. The front desk staff was a bit cold, and it felt like a rental place, not a hotel. I realize these are vacation villas, but I've stayed at these types of Marriott properties before, and we've always been treated like valued hotel guests, not the case here. For instance, there was no ice in our freezer upon check-in, which I get, they'd cleaned it out from the last guests - thank you! I called the front desk to ask where the ice machines were - they didn't have any, but they were willing to SELL me a bag of ice - this, while we were paying $750 a night?!?! Also, coffee in the lobby - that you get yourself, $2 a pop.

My family loves Hilton Head and we try to visit as often as possible. This is the 3rd Marriott we have tried on the island and unfortunately is our least favorite so far. We checked in last Thursday and left on Sunday. I knew that this is Marriott's oldest HHI property and that it has been recently renovated. We were really looking forward to being in Sea Pines and being able to bike to Harbor Town and South Beach. The location is a plus. We never had trouble finding a parking place. Our unit was very nicely done in beautiful colors and was super clean. All the furnishings look new and even the sofa bed was comfortable.

But the lack of any type of restaurant was very noticeable. I figured that if there was no restaurant that the Market would have a good supply of snacks/drinks/food. I was wrong. The Market has just been renovated and looks like a closet. It is small and not stocked well enough. The remote controlled boats in the center courtyard water feature look very inviting. My boys raced out there with quarters to pay for using the boats. They never worked during our entire stay. But there was no sign placed out there to that effect so people just kept losing money trying to get them to work.

While the resort was clean and our beds comfortable the whole place was lacking the resort feel and just felt like a hotel room to us. Not very Marriott feeling at all! It just felt small and dated.

If you have little ones you will want to watch them carefully. The courtyard is basically a giant Koi pond with murky water that has no railing around it. Anyone could easily just walk right into the water.

We are disappointed to read that you did not enjoy your stay at Marriott's Monarch. The resort is not a typical hotel experience and provides guests with many additional amenities, services, activities and luxury villa accommodations. However, while there is no restaurant on site, there are several options wihin walking distance and Harbour Town is a short drive/bike ride. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us.

Beware CONSTRUCTION noise! In April of 2013, we responded to a special offer with discounted rates at Marriott's Vacation Club resorts. We booked the Monarch at Sea Pines for a stay the first week in Sept. 2013. Now, two weeks out from our scheduled arrival, a notice is posted on the Monarch's website: "Sea Pines Beach Club adjacent to our resort will be undergoing a complete renovation August 2013-June 2014. This will include loud construction noise 7:30am-6:30pm Monday-Saturday." To the best of our knowledge and belief, this notice was just posted. Our time to cancel expires shortly. The construction project is a $10 million overhaul of the Sea Pines Beach Club next door to the Monarch. We have submitted a request to Marriott to be moved to another property (similar room at equal promotional discount). To our dismay, they only offered the best current rate and did not match the percentage of discount that was offered back in April when we made our reservation. BEWARE: check out the status of the nearby construction before booking at the Monarch at Sea Pines through June 2014.

While not my favorite of the Hilton Head Marriott timeshares, I still would prefer it over any other brand of time shares. Location is great. Inside the Sea Pines plantation and beachfront. However unless you are an owner, it is highly unlikely you will get a view of the beach. It is the oldest of the Marriott time shares and it shows. Also not all the amenities that you expect of a Marriott timeshare are available - such as a store or restaurant/bar (although there is one close by). A few issues such as events listed that never occurred and pool attendants knowing nothing about although on the calendar given to guests. Most upsetting was that checking in, we were not given the required bracelets to use the facility. The next day our daughters were by the pool when a pool attendant approached them. Although they provided a room number and offered to go to the front desk, they were escorted from the pool. The attendant stood over them while they gathered their pool bag. I immediately went to the front desk. They admitted their error and offered me a toy for our daughters, however since they are 22 and 18, we passed. I would have to say that the behavior of the pool attendant was not at the level expected from the Marriott. On the other hand, the gentleman renting bicycles was very attentive and had the Marriott service down.

My in-laws were some of the first owners at Sea Pines. Absolutely love getting to go stay there. The beach access is tremendous. A few year ago I would have said the accommodations were getting dated but they have worked hard at updating them. Sea Pines itself is exclusive and away from the rest of the island.

This place is a nice getaway for Hilton Head and gets you into Sea Pines which is wonderful in and of itself. Get an oceanfront view room, you will be pleased! Pools and hot tubs were quite pleasant. Rooms were spacious and inviting of relaxation and chilling. Walking out to the beach was quick and easy. Only thing that bugged us was we went to rent bikes and apparently it was the tail end of the shift so the bike renter was a bit short and hurried with us. While we understood the timing was not ideal, it was not characteristic of Marriott service. Easy drive to nowhere in Sea Pines was fabulous. Overall, a great time!
