This is my family's second stay at the Marriot Monarch Resort at Sea Pines. We love the location, in biking or walking distance to just about everything. We only used the car twice to go to the grocery store. My kids love the bike paths, the ping pong, the other games. The grounds are very well maintained and the people working there are nice and helpful.
There was a free breakfast, a free wine and cheese and organized games/contests for people who like those sort of things...my kids. The whole resort is also surprisingly and pleasantly quiet and relaxing considering the size and number of condos.
The property has plenty of sun and shade, tropical and forest like trees all around the pools and hot tubs. It's right on the beach which is perfect for people like me who like to go back and forth to the beach for short amounts of time. The condos are very nice and the kitchens have everything you need. There are a bunch of grills near the pool that my husband seemed to enjoy using. Since we were last there, 15 months ago, the rooms have been renovated and a huge shower replaced the oversized tub allowing for an additional closet in the master bath which was a great change.
At one point during our trip we got locked in our bedroom because the door handle broke. I called the front desk and within 5 minutes, three of the nicest maintenance guys were outside our door helping us get out. That could have been a disaster but instead was a tiny blib in the day because of their responsiveness and resourcefulness.
My only issue (a minor one) with the property is that the gym floor needs to be vacuumed every day and if it's already being cleaned once a day then it needs to be done more frequently. If is covered with sand/dirt and I hated getting on the ground on the mats or balls. It's probably because people are coming right off the beach from running maybe and going into the gym, but it needs extra attention.
Be warned that if you listen to the Marriot Vacation Club spiel to find out what it entails, it is possible that they might (depending on who you get) do their best to make you feel like you are foolish for not wanting to put up tens of thousands of dollars to pre-buy a week of vacation per year, even if you say you have three kids starting college soon. They may even say "and yet you keep coming back to stay at our properties.", which for some reason made me feel less welcome and is still irritating me days later.
