“a good hotel but needs update”

we usually come down to Hilton Head to stay here prior to checking in to our timeshare. I would say this is a good hotel but there are some issues. The hotel is centrally located on the island and right on the beach. Breakfast is good. One the rooms need to be updated. Our room had furniture that showed obvious signs of wear and tear and need to be replaced. Also sometimes with the crowds it seems the staff was overwhelmed with the amount of guests, especially true with the valet and the restaurant. The one strong negative is that you have to pay for Wi-Fi in the rooms which I think is ridiculous in 2014, especially if you are a points customer. Also, the internet and phone coverage in the hotel is spotty at best. There were many times that we had dropped calls and lost service and that was very frustrating when we needed to get important phone calls.

Thank you for taking to time to write a review over your recent stay at the Hilton Head Marriott Resort and Spa. We are a very busy resort but always looking for the opportunity to go above and beyond for the next guest.

We do expect our renovations to begin this fall. We will be updating our guest rooms along with our internet connect. We are looking forward to bringing our guest a fresh, new product along with a speedier connection.

We are here now and are so disappointed. Gave us an upgrade to 1st floor ocean view room. In addition to being outdated and needing updating, the room is very smelly and full of mold and mildew. You can see the black mildew all over the ceiling. The couch also smells heavily of mildew. Both my husband and I have asthma and we both awake wheezing and needing our inhalers. The hallway smells of ?sewage at times. The shower door is poorly designed. There is no way to turn on the shower without getting wet . We are frequent Mariott customers and was sad to see they let this category 6 hotel deteriorate. The location is gorgeous. ..on the beach. The staff. Very friendly. Wireless service very temperamental.

This hotel was good in most respects. The food (breakfast) was very good with a vast choice. The rooms were adequate for the job although toiletries were lacking as there was two of us in the room and only enough soap for one.

There pool was excellent with a great bar and access to the beach.

Lots of local restaurants that were very good and provided a varied choice.

Room Tip: A room on the same floor as the reception desk makes it easier as the other people in the hotel were...

Stayed there in June of 2014 for one week. At first I had my concerns about staying here after reading so many negative reviews. However, I had a wonderful time. The room was dated but I understand the resort is being updated in the fall. The majority of the time, I spent by the pools or on the beach. The poolside service was excellent. The food was good, the drinks refreshing. We ate in the lounge and the restaurant on site as well. The food was excellent! The service in the lounge was slow but I contribute that to the fact that the lounge was full of people from 2 other conventions going on at the same time. The restaurant service was superior to any of the upscale highly rated restaurants we visited on the island. From check in at the front desk, to valet parking, towel exchange, poolside bar &grill, restaurant, janitorial staff, housekeeping, bell hops, everyone employed there wore a smile at all times and went out of their way to see to our comfort and enjoyment. I can't wait to visit next year once the renovations are complete. Thank you Hilton Head Marriott Resort and Spa for a fabulous week!

The Marriott at Hilton Head is in a great location and the hotel staff are very impressive. All employees are very enthusiastic and accommodating. However, the hotel is obviously getting long in the tooth and is in need of a refresh. The location is so good that it would be in Marriott's best interest to upgrade the hotel. Nothing bad but the hotel needs updating. Of note, the WiFi didn't work.

Don't expect to do any work here unless you bring your own internet connection. Supposedly they had internet in the lobby, but I wouldn't try to work in such a busy location. It is 2014 - even cheap hotels have wireless internet.

The rooms are dated and in need of decoration - chipped furniture, flaking plaster in the bathroom. The rooms have the feel of a cheap 3-star. The water pressure was very low coming out the tap, almost a dribble. You are paying for the location, not for a quality hotel. A quoted $40 room upgrade was charged at $60.00 to my card because it included a 'reservation fee', even though I upgraded while staying at the hotel.
