“Mom's Beach Retreat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

I have just returned from another week at Hilton Head at what my family calls "Mom's Beach Retreat." It's a great spot for some R&R, beach walking, spa services, exercise room, indoor/outdoor pool. The people on the staff are wonderful and are available to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Joseph, Front Office Manager is very efficient and courteous. Catherine (Dining Room Manager) is also an asset to the Marriott family. Ben (server in the breakfast room) is very helpful and anxious to please. Sebastian (Dining Room chef) serves a delicious low calorie frittata for people who are there to lose a few pounds. I can't wait to go back for another fantastic week.

Room Tip: high floor overlooking ocean

Our first visit to Hilton Head and this was a lovely hotel. The beach was beautiful and so clean-the Atlantic is beautiful. For the most part the staff was nice and accomodating, we enjoyed the cuccumber water in the lobby in the afternoons and the gentlemen dressed in the golf clothes were an interesting touch, My husband had a wonderful experience with the concierge getting him a tee time at Harbor Town. Rooms were a little tired, but the beds were comfortable and we had a lovely view of the beach. The only exception was the USMC Ball was there one night and they got very loud and unruly-not the fault of the hotel, but annoying none the less. We only ate breakfast there one day and it was pricey, but very nice and the food was fresh. We loved Hilton Head and would definately go back if the opportunity came up again. Wish we had spent more time on the beach and hammocks!

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor for a good view.

This was our first visit to Hilton Head and we had never been on a beach anywhere like this. The location on the beach is fantastic!!! We got up and walked down to the beach for the sunrise and it was spectacular!

The hotel itself is a bit tired, as others have noted. I was disappointed the Starbucks in the hotel was closed for the season - what, we don't drink coffee in November? Stopped into the cafe for coffee to take on the beach and were charged $4 a coffee! That seemed excessive for regular, not so great coffee.

The breakfast buffet is excellent. A really nice selection of things including an omelet bar. Enjoyed the breakfast very much, though the service wasn't very good and we had to flag down the wait staff to get coffee and juice.

The room was average, in need of some updates, but seemed clean in general.

It's the location that tops things though. I loved being right on the beach and it was quick and easy to get to restaurants. Overall recommended.

I love this hotel, but have only been here for the USMC Birthday ball (3 years in a row) our rooms are always clean and the staff has alway been friendly. This year we ordered room service for breakfast...food was good, maybe a little over priced...but it's Hilton Head, I guess that should be expected. Hoping to go back and enjoy some of the other "amenities" before we leave the area.

I'm so happy that I purchased the hotel rate that included the breakfast buffet. It goes until 11:30am or 12 noon on weekends and it's delicious. You are full until dinner. Then, you don't feel bad about spending money on a nice seafood dinner. The pool was great although the indoor pool was not heated properly. The outdoor pools are deep. 12 feet is a little too deep for the little ones. Better family activities would be my recommendation, I.e sundae making or games, like some of the JW marriots have... The service at breakfast was fantastic!

The marriott has such a beautiful ocean front property on Hilton Head Island. It is truly a fine resort which compares to many of the Ritz Carleton properties golf resorts we have stayed at over the years. I have to mention that this property needs to spruce up their interior rooms as noted in other reviews, however, the suite we had was very clean and felt very comfortable in spite of being dated. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were on the breakfast package and again, I can honestly compare it to a very high end breakfast buffet where you can order off the menu or the buffett which offered a really nice assortment of well prepared foods. Everything was fresh and delicious and again, the staff in the restaurant were great! We loved Hilton Head Island. We had bikes delivered to the property and rode them on the beach every day and around the island on the many bike paths. We golfed at all three golf courses located on this property and they were outstanding. There is parking located very close to the hotel if you do not want to valet your car. The pool area was maintained very well and they also had hammocks for guests located on the beach! Plenty of room for everyone! Beach was beautiful and goes on for miles and miles - good walking beach. We would return to this location again.

Room Tip: Can't go wrong with Ocean Front! Plenty of rooms with great views!

Room was bright, cheerful, very clean, and nicely furnished. Huge private balcony was wonderful. We had ocean view room, which also overlooked the pool area. Gorgeous!!! Staff was very friendly and service was very good. The room service breakfasts were very good and delivered promptly. Only ate one meal in the restaurant. It was lunch. my husband's soup and cold cut sandwich bar were good. My grilled cheese sandwich was awful. Tasted rancid as did the fries. The hallways were clean and bright. Carpet looked new. Snack/gift/souvenir shop on lobby floor was well-stocked and had good coffee. The little food shop on lower level didn't have much to offer.

Room Tip: Spend the extra and get an ocean view room. Ask for top floor for best view.
