“BEWARE OF GARDEN VILLAS”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2013

We booked our family vacation at Barony Beach Resort in HHI. We had stayed there before, liked it a lot and thought we knew the property layout. When making the reservation I was asked if I wanted Ocean Front or Garden View. I chose Garden View---thinking that meant we would not be facing the ocean or even be able to see the ocean but would rather have a view of trees, landscaping etc that so many resorts have that they call Garden View. This was not the case at Barony----there Garden View Villas are FAR away from the other buildings of the resort and are NOWHERE CLOSE TO THE BEACH. There is actually another entire resort between the Garden Villas and the rest of the buildings at Barony Beach!!! (The Westin Resort at HHI). To get to the beach one has about a 10-15 minute walk----so if you are carrying beach chairs, umbrella, cooler, etc it can be a real challenge. They advertise a tram service but we found that not very timely or useful. So,I felt like we were TRICKED into booking at the Garden Villas far away from the beach. So, beware if you book at Barony Beach to understand exactly where you will be housed!!

I stayed at the Marriott Barony and really enjoyed it! High thread count on the sheets, comfortable bed, very clean! They had a sangria social and the sangria was so tasty and the staff was so friendly. I recommend this resort to families!

Huge, nice, and serene property located right on the beach. Rooms were clean and updated. Plenty of stuff for the kids to do. Kitchen, jacuzzi, bonfires, movies, games, spa and the beach all within your reach. Staff was also very friendly and efficient. Would love to go back again.

I should preface this by admitting that we stayed at HHI MBBC with some friends who own a Marriott VC timeshare. So we were officially moochers for our weeklong stay.

That said, the accomodations were fine. We stayed in one of the garden villas away from the beach but found that the walk wasn't all that far and the fact that the pool at the garden villa was less crowded and more kid friendly was actually a nice little bonus. The rooms have everything you would need and were sized appropriately. The housekeeping staff could've freshened up the towels a little more often but, the housekeeping cart was available for me to bogart a couple when we needed.

The restaurant on premises was nice... not great but, more than adequate. It's location near the beach villas was more suited for residents in those buildings.

We really enjoyed the bike rentals and would suggest week long rentals to prospective guests. It was fun riding around the island and there are a couple of neat places closer to the hotel.

There were daily activities for the kids outside of just playing in the pool or at the beach and the staff was really friendly. All in all, a very nice experience. I can't tell you how it compares to other Marriott VC properties but I can say that we had a very good experience.

We stayed at this property to take advantage of the pool for a few days. Upon check in we were not shown or told about the amenities. We got lost trying to find the beach/pool because of the way the property is set up. We were directed by staff to a small kid pool. After checking out we found out from a friend that there is a huge main pool. Contacted management about our disappointment and it seemed nobody care all that much that we felt like we missed out on the best part of the hotel. Be sure to make sure you know you way around before leaving check

Great place! The pools are very nice and it is right on the beach so easy to get there. Lots of activities on the property to keep everyone busy. The pool bar is expensive though - a jumbo hot dog for $8. Would be nice to have basketball court but they do have shuffleboard and corn hole.

Wonderful family resort with seaside and pool-side activities. The villas are upscale with very nice appointments ... granite counter tops, fine furniture, etc. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There is a restaurant on the premises with an extensive menu. The stretch of beach is nice and as you proceed east on the beach it becomes less and less crowded. The new pool/play ground by the Garden villas is fantastic. Ocean views are limited however.
