“Never leave the resort!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2013

Great place! The pools are very nice and it is right on the beach so easy to get there. Lots of activities on the property to keep everyone busy. The pool bar is expensive though - a jumbo hot dog for $8. Would be nice to have basketball court but they do have shuffleboard and corn hole.

Wonderful family resort with seaside and pool-side activities. The villas are upscale with very nice appointments ... granite counter tops, fine furniture, etc. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There is a restaurant on the premises with an extensive menu. The stretch of beach is nice and as you proceed east on the beach it becomes less and less crowded. The new pool/play ground by the Garden villas is fantastic. Ocean views are limited however.

This is a timeshare condo community located on the beach front. The units are absolutely beautiful and very well-appointed. A great pool with a bar, and a superb beach. Very well maintained overall with lush grounds. Access to area restaurants is reasonable. I highly recommend it. If you're looking to party non-stop, stay at the Holiday Inn on S. Forest Beach. It's not a palace by any means (it needs updating), but there is a lot of poolside fun the last time I checked.

Room Tip: Any choice is good. A beach front room is likely a waste of money unless you plan on spending a lot...

My husband, 2 children (ages 9 and 4) just returned from a 5 night stay at the resort. I used my reward points to book the stay so it didn't cost me anything.

BEST THINGS ABOUT RESORT: On the beach; Clean; friendly staff; 4 swimming pools; spa on premises; beautiful landscaping; gas grills; All Y-Alls restaurant with good luncheon type food; nice activities. New Garden Pool with zero entry, water features, and sandy area. Flat screen TV's at the Garden Grilling Pavillion.

WORST THING ABOUT RESORT: If you are staying in the main 4 buildings of the resort they are in very close proximity of each other and overlook a small courtyard (which, if you don't have an ocean view) makes you feel as if you're in a fish bowl. The garden villas are actually the nicest part of the resort with the nicest pool (particularly if you have small children).but the farthest from the ocean. They do have a new slide, but it's lame. Need to be at least 48" tall and able to swim. There weren't even any kids on the slide it was so pathetic. My 4 year old daughter cried because she wasn't able to go down the slide because she didn't meet the height requriement. She has been on practically all the waterpark slides in Carowinds and Disney. It was a joke.

The spa is nice but expensive. I paid $65 for a pedicure with reflexology (nothing more than a foot massage) and another $15 to get my daughters toes painted which didn't last the day. The greatest thing is that the day we checked out we were able to use the locker rooms to take a shower and change into our clothes to go home after spending a day on the beach.

All-in-all the place was very nice and we enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to stay again. We had stayed at the Marriott SurfWatch last year and found that even more to our liking as the units are spread out and not on top of each other with more of a natural type surrounding with marshes and little hidden alcoves with a few gas grills and picnic tables (so you're not grilling with the masses like at Barony). Just our preference I guess.

My family and I booked our vacation through VRBO; Concierge Realty-Rentals. The Mariott Barony Beach Club is mostly privately owned through time shares but we bought someones time share that they either didnt want or couldnt use for the week. One of my only complaints about the realty company was that I was under the assumption that we would be on the beach and have an oceanfront view. We have three children between the ages of 4 and 7 and really didnt want to walk to the beach everyday. When we arrived at the resort (we had the week of June 2 through June 9, 2013) we were assigned room 9126 in the Gardenia building. The Gardenia and Jasmine buildings are about a 5 minute walk to the main pool and beach area. These buildings sit by themselves on the resort away from the other 5 buildings. The Gardenia and Jasmine have no direct access to the ocean as both units sit behind the Westin Resort, which is between the Barony and the Ocean. Although this was a bit misleading to me when I booked the reservations, the room was very nice, clean and had a nice view of the Bleu's Lagoon (one of the resorts pools). We also found out quickly that there is a shuttle (a 6-8 person golf cart that escorts guests across the resort to the main pool/beach area) that ran about every 5-10 minutes.

The other two small issues we had on our stay was that the Willies Splash Pad was under construction that week and was closed and we were originally told it would be down through June 5th but wasnt actually open until Saturday June 8th. We were also supposed to receive a mid-week room cleaning that we paid for but never received. Having no view of the ocean and not being in close proximity to the ocean, not receiving a room cleaning during our week long stay and the Splash Pad being down for the kids were the only issues we had with the resort. This was our first time ever to Hilton Head and were given great recommendations of this resort and chose it because of its reviews. These issues that we had would not prevent us from coming back.

The kids absolutely loved the place which made us love it. The staff was friendly and the resort and rooms were clean and in good shape. All the guests were polite and the activivities for the kids on the resort were nice. Although I dont have much as far as comparing this resort to others on Hilton Head (as this was our first time at HH), I can tell you that this was absolutely family friendly and the resort never felt crowded. One little word of advice I can give people who stay in either the Gardenia or Jasmine is that there is a gate behind the Shark Shoal Slide that leads directly to the front door of the Westin. If you take this gate and walk through the Westin and then to the beach, it is a very nice walk and much shorter to the beach. Same goes from the walk back from the beach to the resort. When the shuttle doesnt run or you dont want to take it, I recommend this path to the beach.

If you are staying here and want an ocean view, you will only get one from either the Sea Oat or the Morning Glory. The Bayberry and Live Oak also do not have ocean views.

What a great vacation we had and had it not been for these small issues I mentioned, I would have given it a 5 star rating. If we would have had an ocean view as promised, I would bring my family back to this resort each summer.

Room Tip: No oceanview from the Gardenia, Jasmine, Bayberry or Live Oak. Only possible oceanview comes from e...

We stayed in the garden villas which are not directly on the ocean but tucked behind the Westin next door. Both buildings, Jasmine (slightly closer to the main building) and Gardenia, face a nice pool area with waterslide, splash pad, pool, and hot tub. There is a recreation area with games, TVs, and grills. Bikes could be rented for $15/day or $30/week. The villas are spacious, clean, and modern. The walk to the beach was 5-10 minutes and they had a golf cart shuttle that came by regularly. There are additional pools and an outdoor restaurant by the oceanfront buildings. There is an indoor pool, spa, and market there too. Although I missed not having an oceanfront view, I would stay in the garden villas again.

Room Tip: The Jasmine building is closer to the beach than the Gardenia building. Both have a pool view.

This is our second year that we have stayed at this location. We spent an entire week here. As a timeshare owner at this location we were guaranteed the ocean front two bedroom villa. These villas seem hard to get if you are not an owner. The rooms are nicely decorated, clean and come with a full kitchen, dining table, whirlpool tub, washer and dryer and separate shower room.
The Barony has 3 outdoor pools and 1 indoor pool. Also 4 hot tubs.
Onsite is a pool/ bar with good choice of food choices, kids menu, Sunday brunch, and daily food specials. Oh and Tons of cocktail options! Also onsite is a marketplace and full spa that caters to adults and kids.
Activities are different everyday and include workout classes, kids crafts, slip and slide, magic, movies. Can't wait to return next year.
