“We LOVED it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

We are DVC members and this was our first time in Hilton Head. When we arrived at the property, there was a staff member there to greet us with "mickey hands". It was absolutely precious! The resort is beautiful with perfect, subtle Disney touches. We stayed in a studio and the layout was the best of any DVC studios from previous stays at the parks.

What impressed us the most was the FREE activities included at the resort. Our kids loved the story time with cookies and milk and we had a blast at the family campfire. For December, it was a little on the chilly side, but the heated pool and hot tub helped make up for the cold temps.

We absolutely loved our stay and cannot wait to return!

Room Tip: If you are staying in a studio, request a room in building 12. It is the closest to the laundry room...

We spent a night here while traveling back home from Disney World. It is a quaint resort on its own island off the marshes of Hilton Head. We were told it was the slowest week of the year and it made for a nice one night stay.

The resort gives you a safe feeling with the security gate, and after we were buzzed in we were welcomed by a cast member on the front porch. This theme continued throughout the stay, with every cast member being extremely friendly and informative. The resort has just enough Disney touches while still having a relaxed feeling.

Being the off-season, we were given a room with an excellent view of the surrounding marsh from the balcony. The room and its amenities were adequate while having a cozy, cabin feel.

We only had a few hours in the morning to quickly check out the resort. We enjoyed some delicious Mickey waffles at the hotel's cute outdoor take-out restaurant called Tide Me Over. We ate on their deck that had beautiful marsh views. After a quick visit to the gift shop, we decided to take the short drive over to the beach.

As a benefit to your stay, you have free access to Disney's private beach house on the ocean. There is a heated pool, games, and another quick-service lunch counter. The beach is accessed via a short boardwalk that is surrounded by palm trees and other vegetation. This area is a great benefit to staying at the hotel and we wish we would have had more time to enjoy it.

On the night we checked it, we took a quick drive over to Giuseppi's Pizza and Pasta restaurant. Since it was late and the off-season, we were having a hard time finding a restaurant that was open late. Giuseppi's ended up being a great find, they had an excellent staff and delicious pizza.

Although this hotel offer timeshares, we were glad to see they did not push the hard sell in any way.

Overall, this resort was a relaxing change from theme park and expressway-side hotels. We hope to spend more time here in the future.

Room Tip: Big discounts on rooms if you stay during the off-season

The place was too good but I and my husband expected Disney characters here. The activities for children were simply superb the place was very clean and it was worth the money spent. The only part I suffered was with the Wifi and it absolutely sucks. We decided to give our children a disney surprise and they truly enjoyed it. We enjoyed the heated pool! Loved the food here. Worth the money spent but I would suggest them to fix the wifi.

Room Tip: We stayed in the main building and I suggest it a best place when you are traveling with kids.

We were in one of the two bedrooms and overall it was all excellent. The only thing that was "cheap" on their part was, because we are not Disney resort members, we were charged $10 per day for Internet access. Internet access is included at any other hotel we have stayed at for many years at this point. I think Disney can afford to include the Internet access at no charge.

The resort is tucked into a marina area in the middle of Hilton Head. Actually, the Disney HHI resort is on its own little island in Broad Creek. You drive over a small bridge to get to the gate and to enter the resort. The resort is not as over-the-top themed as some of the other Disney resorts, but it is a perfect representation of lowcountry SC in earlier days. The resort is small and compact. The driveway is tight, with two cars barely fitting side-by-side down it. Parking is only enough for the guests that were there during our December 2012 holiday trip. We really expected the driveway to go all the way around the resort, but it doesn't. The driveway and parking area are only on one side of the resort. The other side of the resort is marshland.

The views from the rooms are either walkway and "garden" or marshland. There didn't seem to be any rooms with a parking lot view. Our two bedroom room was the second room to which we were assigned. The first had a walkway view, and I really needed to relax and enjoy the marsh view. We were relocated to building 18 on the second floor. It was a wonderful view of the salt marsh. Beautiful! The room was very spacious. It was a dedicated two bedroom. The second bedroom had two queen beds, a small dining area/table, TV armoire, changing area, and a nice full bathroom. Between the second bedroom and the main living area was a hallway with a full-size stackable washer and dryer. There was room to hang wet clothing in that closet, as well. There was a bench for putting on your shoes and pegs for hanging jackets. The living room was open to the kitchen, which had a large island for preparing food. The bench seating for the dining table was nice, too. My only complaint about the kitchen was that the frying pans needed to be changed out. The nonstick coating was scratched and didn't look safe for cooking. I don't like non-stick coatings and prefer just stainless steel pots and pans. The corner cabinet was very high, and there was no way any of us could actually reach the dishes that were on the top shelves all the way back. We had to move everything, so that we could access the items we used each day.

The master bedroom was large with a large bathroom similar to those at the Boardwalk or Beach Club Villas. Both the main bedroom and the living room opened up to a balcony/deck, which had a large picnic table and two rocking chairs. It was nice to spend mornings and evenings out there. We had a good view of the evening movies that were shown on a large screen near the marsh.

The check-in was not great. It was very difficult to get any helpful or meaningful information from any of the cast members regarding any activities or restaurants in the area. It was as if they had never traveled the island, themselves. They lived elsewhere, and just drove to the resort for work each day. I really expected some assistance from the staff and was very disappointed. They were essentially useless. All research had to be done on our own. They had nothing to offer. I even felt that I knew more about what the island had to offer than did the staff that worked at the resort. These comments aren't related to just one cast member, they are related to every cast member we encountered and asked questions of. Thank goodness for the internet. We had to go elsewhere to get brochures and booklets that advertised happenings on the island.

One thing we did enjoy at the resort was the bike rental. The cost was good -- $30 for the entire stay, I think. The bikes weren't great, but they were cheap. We may have had better luck with rentals elsewhere, as most of the places drop off and pick up. Our Disney bikes needed repair or adjustment a few times, and the girl that was left in charge at the recreation desk had no idea what to do. We were going to make the adjustments ourselves and had to ask for a wrench. Unfortunately, the girl had no idea what a wrench was. After describing to her what a wrench looked like, we finally got one and made the adjustments ourselves. Helmets and bike locks came with the rentals. We also rented fishing poles. The resort fishing license only applies to the pier at the resort. Well, if you plan to fish and actually catch something other than mud, you need to fish at high tide. The water will be nowhere near deep enough at any other time of the day. Get a hold of the tide schedule when planning to fish. We were able to get the schedule from a local ad booklet, but not from the resort recreation staff. Fishing poles are $5 per 24 hour period.

The room needed a little more work with the cleaning. The mirrors were full of finger prints and junk. There was hair on all counters, showers/tubs, and toilets. Gross. More gross than that was the bedspread on the king bed. Big, disgusting, yellow crusty stains. Absolutely gross. I called housekeeping for a clean bedspread and blanket. I only wish I hadn't touched them to remove them. I have known that Disney resorts don't change bedspreads and blankets between all guests. I don't have any idea how the housekeeper missed this mess. There were plenty of towels and the trash pick up was good. Again, the full cleaning left a lot to be desired. Very haphazard. Sinks not really cleaned, counters and tubs not really cleaned. My child found artificial nail tips on the floor in her room. Oh well. The beds and pillows were extremely comfortable. The couch in the living room was unsuitable for sitting to watch tv. It was crunchy and slippery at the same time. Again, though, we were going to be spending our time outside of the room, so the slippery couched encouraged me to get out and not sit there. We were awakened twice by blaring music from adjacent rooms. This music went on for hours. I called the front desk to inquire about it, but they weren't very helpful. I called the loud room myself a few times. No answer until a housekeeper finally answered. She said she was there cleaning. I asked her to turn down the music, and immediately it was lower in volume. The next day, it was the same story but with the room below us. That was disruptive and unnecessary. I called back the front desk to let them know it was the housekeeper, and the cast member was upset that this had happened.

We were so happy to have access to the beach 24 hours per day. We made a few trips there after 11 PM. It was spectacular to walk on the beach at night. We weren't able to make use of the pools, because the outside temperature was too cold. There were a few people who swam a couple of days in the pool at the resort. We enjoyed playing shuffle board at the resort. I now want to install a shuffle board court in my own backyard! What fun!

We ate most of our meals in the room. There were plenty of nearby grocery stores, but we went to Harris Teeter most often. There is no restaurant at the resort. We ate once at the fast food counter at the resort. The fast food location at the beach house was not open in the winter. There really isn't anything special available. Just the usual Disney walk-up window food. There isn't much available at the gift shop. It is the smallest Disney gift shop I have seen. We traveled down the road to TJMaxx or Marshall's for items that we needed.

Being centrally located made the resort convenient for traveling about the island in search of fun. We did take some tours and a drive to Savannah. It was a wonderful vacation once I realized we had to do all the research ourselves. It's not like Disney World, where you open your door and have opportunities for fun everywhere. At HHI, the staff knowledge was limited and we had to do all the work to find the fun.

I would definitely go back with different expectations than I had upon our first arrival. We didn't get to do half of the things that we ended up putting on our list to do.

Room Tip: Ask for a room right on the marsh. Dedicated studios and one bedrooms seemed to be along the boardw...

We visited as non vacation club members. We completely enjoyed our stay. The room/condo 2BR 2BR was spacious. The service was what is expected of Disney. When we lost a stuffed animal they sorted laundry looking for it! The resort had plenty of activties even in low season. We enjoyed playing pool and corn hole. The walking/bike trails are great. There are numerous restaurants, shops, groceries within a short drive. Stay away from Sea grass grill. You can read my review. Would definitely return and recommend to others. The only drawback is the water pressure in the shower was low.

2 br Villa is wonderful. Children's programs are wonderful! Activities are fun, swimming is great. Recreation cast were attentive & engaging. Great location, relaxing environment. Cranberry cookies are amazing in the front lobby. Will be back next year!

Other reviewers are right on as far as the Internet service however. The WiFi service absolutely STINKS & is Totally useless!!! This was especially frustrating this time &worse than ever.
