“Tasty casual dining by the ocean.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

This little gem is hidden away at The Palmetto Dunes Hotel but is worth the trouble of finding it. We went on a Monday and enjoyed refreshing half price margaritas. Two in our party ordered fish tacos which the waitress said was their most popular item. The fish was locally caught and blackened and nestled in a soft tortilla with a side of chips and salsa. The order included 2 tacos. Everything was freshly made and delicious. Someone else ordered the steamed shrimp which were a good size but they lacked Old Bay seasoning and the cocktail sauce could have used some horseradish for those who like it spicy. My husband had the gyro and I noticed he cleaned his plate. Prices were reasonable, our waitress was efficient and very personable, and live music is performed sone days. It was difficult to leave such a relaxing place.

“Perfect stop for lunch after a long beach walk”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013 via mobile

As residents, we appreciate casual waterfront places like the Dune House. After a long walk or bike ride on the beach, it's fun to relax on their deck overlooking the dunes and beach. On our Hilton Head beach, there are not many eateries/bars directly on the water. We love the delicious fresh fish tacos and the huge burgers grilled right there in front of you. Drinks and beer (none on draft, though) are served promptly and reasonably priced for the area. Service is quick and friendly. Next time you are on the Palmetto Dunes beach, give this a try!

“Beautiful beach view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

This place was truly wonderful. My husband and I stopped by after we got married the day before on the beach. The staffers could not have been more accommodating and even remembered us from the night before. The view of beach from their restaurant is perfect and the food is great too!

“Two bad Thanksgiving dinners add up to one bad review!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2012

We will never go there for Thanksgiving again. Last year, we gave them a free pass because we had called late and they added "another seating due to popular demand." We were the latest people served and sort of fitted in. There were slim pickings but what we has was fine and tasted good.

We made these reservations long ago and had the 3:30 seating.

NO TURKEY ever. We were there 1 1/2 hours because supposedly some was on the way. All dessert was gone except for the pumpkin pie. No cookies. No rolls. Soup (I had none but one person at our table did) was "watered down" and barely warm. The lamb was cold. The coffee was cold (I had none but others at the table did).

Of course, we were there after a large table who were at the 11:30 seating were STILL there and STILL going back for more food before we were even seated. And we saw them going back time after time while we were eating and they were STILL there when we left at 5:00, which was more time than we usually spend pigging out on a buffet because we were hoping there would be some food for us finally. Not to be.

Most restaurants, however, would tell people after -- what? -- two hours maybe? -- hey, we have another seating and need to clean the table and get ready. Because we personally know these other people, we know they had been there already for hours, were there the ENTIRE hour and a half in which we were there, and were STILL there after we left. Now whose fault is that? People with no manners and concern for the poor waitress getting a tip only for what should have been an hour of service and other people paying for food which they ate? Or the management for not managing the time each table of people were allowed to hog (forgive the pun) the table?

How much food can you eat if you sit at a table and spend the entire day there? Pretty amazing, don't you think? Now they were at a table that was holding maybe 15 people and I believe they were all still sitting there when WE LEFT at 5:00. They all got there at 11:30.

So it was not good and there was almost nothing left. But you can see why. But the Dunes House should also limit the amount of time someone can sit at a table and graze all day long. If you call, completely refilling your plates grazing. They probably had enough food ordered for people to have a nice plateful and maybe go back for a spoonful or so extra which would be normal but not enough for people to spend their day there and eat

First of all, thank you for choosing to spend your Thanksgiving dinner with us at the Dunes House. We would like to apologize for the experience that you had concerning the buffet and we regret that your holiday dinner was less than impressive. We failed to meet your expectations and that is unacceptable. Please contact us at customerservice@palmettodunes.com so we can find out more details about your visit. We strive to make our customers happy and satisfied and would like to be able to correct the situation and address the quality and issues with the buffet-style service. Thank you again for your business and we look forward to hearing from you.
