We will never go there for Thanksgiving again. Last year, we gave them a free pass because we had called late and they added "another seating due to popular demand." We were the latest people served and sort of fitted in. There were slim pickings but what we has was fine and tasted good.
We made these reservations long ago and had the 3:30 seating.
NO TURKEY ever. We were there 1 1/2 hours because supposedly some was on the way. All dessert was gone except for the pumpkin pie. No cookies. No rolls. Soup (I had none but one person at our table did) was "watered down" and barely warm. The lamb was cold. The coffee was cold (I had none but others at the table did).
Of course, we were there after a large table who were at the 11:30 seating were STILL there and STILL going back for more food before we were even seated. And we saw them going back time after time while we were eating and they were STILL there when we left at 5:00, which was more time than we usually spend pigging out on a buffet because we were hoping there would be some food for us finally. Not to be.
Most restaurants, however, would tell people after -- what? -- two hours maybe? -- hey, we have another seating and need to clean the table and get ready. Because we personally know these other people, we know they had been there already for hours, were there the ENTIRE hour and a half in which we were there, and were STILL there after we left. Now whose fault is that? People with no manners and concern for the poor waitress getting a tip only for what should have been an hour of service and other people paying for food which they ate? Or the management for not managing the time each table of people were allowed to hog (forgive the pun) the table?
How much food can you eat if you sit at a table and spend the entire day there? Pretty amazing, don't you think? Now they were at a table that was holding maybe 15 people and I believe they were all still sitting there when WE LEFT at 5:00. They all got there at 11:30.
So it was not good and there was almost nothing left. But you can see why. But the Dunes House should also limit the amount of time someone can sit at a table and graze all day long. If you call, completely refilling your plates grazing. They probably had enough food ordered for people to have a nice plateful and maybe go back for a spoonful or so extra which would be normal but not enough for people to spend their day there and eat
