“We love Royal Dunes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013 via mobile

We have been owners here since Royal Dunes was built and have never regretted it. It is quiet, convenient, comfortbale, well maintained and friendly. The fabulous beach is an easy 5 minute walk away. The units are spacious and spotless. We have exchanged our week 11 times since we owned our week here, for places all over North America and a couple in the UK, but not one of those other resorts had units as nice as these at RD.

The units, 3 bd 3 ba, have everything for a vacation stay including a washer and dryer with detergent provided. The beach is an easy 5 min walk and it's a gorgeous beach that stretches in both directions. Retail and restaurants are abundant nearby. We went in January and the pool was heated and very swimmable. The hot tub was hot! The property had a sign warning not to feed the alligators, and we didn't see any nor feed any.

The alligators are usually hidden in January, if you stay with us any time from April through October the island is abundant with gators. They are fun to watch but never feed them! We hope you come stay with us again!

This was our first visit to Hilton Head Island, we thoroughly enjoyed our week at Royal Dunes! Royal Dunes is located within the Port Royal Plantation. We stayed in building 4 which is a bit away from the other three building however, building 4 is closer to the beach making the walk very easy. Our unit was fabulous, well maintained, very roomy (three bedrooms, three baths). The kitchen was well stocked with everything you need. Parking is under the building and there is an elevator (with plenty of luggage carts available to facilitate moving in & out and help with groceries).

My wife and I love to ride bicycles and Hilton Head is the place to do that. Hilton Head Island is the most bike friendly destination we have visited. There are bike paths everywhere you want to explore. Our only disapointment was the inability to access miles of paths on the "Sea Pines Resort". Sea Pines boasts of over 5000 ocean front acres and 15 miles of bike paths; you just can't use them unless you are staying on property. You can pay $5.00 (per car) to enter the property to visit the shops and Harbour Town but you can't bring your bicycles with you.

If you intend to visit Hilton Head I enthusiastically suggest you stay at Royal Dunes Resort!!

We spent five nights in October 2012 at Royal Dunes Resort. Royal Dunes continues to be our favorite timeshare resort on Hilton Head. The complex is located in Port Royal Plantation and consists of four buildings with three or four floors each. Each building has an elevator and plenty of luggage carts. You use a key card to access the hallway where the doors to the units are located. Then use the key card again to access your unit.

The decor was stylishly upgraded several years back and the new furnishings, carpet, and drapes in the living room and dining room area do not yet show any wear and tear. Each unit consists of three bedrooms. Two of the bedrooms are spacious Master suites with en suite baths. The third bedroom is small and has twin beds and a bath conveniently located across the hall. The mattresses were nice and firm and in good shape and seemed to have little wear. Each bedroom has a television, some of them new and, in our unit, an older model in the twin bedroom. However, the living room had a nice wall-mounted flat screen with DVD player and a CD/radio. We had three couples in our group, and we never felt crowded. There were a variety of pots, pans, casseroles, and storage containers to accommodate any cooking one may want to do. The pans all seemed new (T-Fal) with very little evidence of use. The dining table roomily accommodated six people and there were two bar chairs at the kitchen counter.

All units have a balcony with a table and four chairs. The resort does not offer many on-site activities. Organized activities were a breakfast combined with a presentation on local attractions and a luncheon/cookout. The resort has a pool, a shuffleboard area, and a cornhole area.

The resort staff is one of the friendliest we’ve encountered. We got a nail in our tire and one of the staff members offered to take our tire off and go have it repaired. (Fortunately, we had enough air in the tire to get to the tire repair center the staff recommended.)

It is a bit of a walk to the beach. For those who are in exercise mode, the walk is not difficult at all. However, if you are carrying beach chairs, umbrellas, children, etc., the walk will be a bit tiring. The resort shuttle will drive you to the beach in an oversized golf cart, or you can drive yourself as there is a large parking area at the beach access. However, about half of the beach parking is for vehicles with a parking permit and half is metered parking for visitors. I don't know how crowded the parking lot gets in the summer, but it was nearly empty in early October.

We enjoyed our 6 day stay at Royal Dunes. The condo was roomy and clean, with great ammenities. The beach is a short, pleasant walk. We especially enjoyed the many options for exercise: running and biking on the beach (nice firm sand), well connected and shady bike trails, golf, tennis, and nature parks. We all found activities that we enjoyed just outside our door.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2012

I rented a 3 bedroon, 3 bath unit thru Redweek.com, for the week after July 4th, and was quite pleased. The unit was quite spacious, with updated upholstered furniture and all the bedding was new, Summer weight down comforters and thin coverlets. All bedrooms had ceiling fans and sufficient closet space. Bathrooms, likewise, were large and roomy. Hallways wide and maneuverable.
Our unit overlooked the pool and although we walked just around the corner to Marriott's Barony (owners) for pool and beach, we did make use of the activites around the pool. The corn hole area was a pleasant surprise. They also had a few fun social activities at the pool.
The kitchen was fully functional, but missing a few items,(bring your own outdoor grill tools if you plan to use one of the many grills). The stackable W/D unit is in a large closet to the side of the kitchen. This is one area that needs updating. The sliding wood doors are heavy and because they jump track so frequently, high caution is required. Another thing that needs attention/updating/replacing are the dresser/chest furniture. Outdated and old, evry piece was missing at least one drawer pull, rendering the space useless. A small, but inconvenient matter.
The dining room table and chairs, again, with generous size. Four TVs, and even a nice little stereo unit.
In these times of tough economy and societal upheaval my husband and I appreciated the double door secuity layout and monetary value.
We travel frequently thru our hotel points and timeshare exchanges, and as one of our home resorts is on HH, this property is a definite keeper on our list.

We thank you for your feedback and are glad that you had a great time here at Royal Dunes. The wooden furniture in the condos was not part of our most recent refurbishment as it has a ten year lifespan. We will began changing this during our next phase that begins in 2014 with a building per year. Our staff works hard to maintain these items and are sorry that you had a few minor issues. Grill utensils are available upon request in the clubhouse. We hope to see you again soon!
