“Disappointed ”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2013

My husband and I stayed at this resort in August 2013. it was our second trio to Hilton Head, and we could not wait to go back with friends. We stayed at the Sea Pines Plantation the first time, and found the location of this resort to be FAR less desirable. We were disappointed by the location of the resort relative to Hilton Head. It was simply too far from the main area where restaurants, shopping, biking were located. The cost of the tolls over the bridge quickly became costly.

The main, most significant complaint we had was the inability to sleep at night in our two bedroom unit. The hallway lighting (two separate units) shown DIRECTLY like a beacon into the bedrooms. You could truly read by it at 2:00 pm ... no additional lighting needed. We ended up purchasing foil which we used each night to cover the light fixtures so that we could sleep. The architect who planned the unit layout should pay damages to this resort (and the guests who have suffered) as a result of that major design flaw.

The interior of the unit was fine, and looks just like the photos. The pool was nice, and it was often fairly deserted, especially during mid-week. I cannot stress enough that the sleeping accommodations are particularly poor, and you should be prepared to deal with them in some way. Foil works OK, but still does not cause all the light to be removed.

This is a beautiful resort! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The construction did not bother us at all; in fact, we found it fascinating to sit on the balcony and watch their progress. We stayed in a two bedroom unit. Everything was extremely clean, comfortable, and spacious. We loved going out in the evenings to watch the sunsets which were some of the most beautiful you have ever seen. There are excellent restaurants close by which we thoroughly enjoyed. There is a nice pool and exercise room. Some of the most enjoyable times for us was walking out to the Waterway in the evening and sitting in the swings or just kicking back in the rocking chairs! For those that like to fish, you have a place to clean, cook, and eat without going back to the unit to do it. Everyone was friendly, and we heard so many positive comments.

Currently, (Sep 2013) construction is taking place on the third building at Bluewater. (a total of 5 are planned) The construction noise wakes you up every weekday. There is no consideration on how this affects the guests. Today, they started at 6:45am with heavy cement trucks revving the engines very high to pump cement. Plus, cement trucks are coming and going constantly along with the beep-beep-beep whenever they back up (frequently). The construction crew is shouting to be heard over the engine noise along with almost constant hammering. I've been awakened every day this week. Stay away from this resort until the construction is over in about a year! Besides the construction this place is very nice. Well appointed rooms, clean, good size. Construction pictures added.

My wife's family and I stayed at the Bluewater resort for 7 days. We used my buddies timeshare getaway. Stayed in a 3 bedroom, 3 bath room. The resort was awesome! Plenty if room for 6 of us to hang out. Flat screen TVs in all rooms. The resort property itself was small but that didn't bother us. Really nice walk out dock with free kayaks and chairs. The beaches were just a short drive from the resort. My ONLY complaint about the resort is these little black bugs flying all over the place. We couldn't sit down by the outside pool for long cause of these bugs. They were everywhere! 100's of them. I would think they could spray around the pool area so you wouldn't get bothered. But like I said only complaint. We would go back.

Beautiful resort with very spacious rooms. We had a three bedroom which all had separate bathrooms. The balcony wrapped around the living room area and the bedrooms. There was construction going on but was not bothersome.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013 via mobile

We stayed here for Fourth of July week. We had a 2 bedroom which was very nice. With 3 kids and 3 adults the space was comfortable. The bathrooms are huge and bedrooms spacious. They had several activities for kids and adults which were fun. The pond was nice and we made a habit of looking for the alligators in it multiple times a day. The dock was beautiful and we saw dolphins all day every day! My husband and I tried fishing from the dock but didn't catch anything worthwhile. The Fourth of July celebration was fun until the fireworks. There was a problem with the barge so the didn't start until 11 and only lasted 3 minutes. It was rather disappointing. I felt the location was nice. It was quite and the drive to other things like the beach and activities was short. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I was nervous because another review said they were horrified by the people and neighborhood outside of the gates. I think they are completely wrong! The neighborhood was nice and the people are very friendly!!! We will be going back next year!

This was our first time staying at Bluewater and it was a great experience. The staff was friendly, check in was efficient and the resort unit was clean and nicely decorated. We had a three bedroom unit since our daughter and grandson joined us for the week. The unit was spacious and would have easily slept 8. The kitchen was small and compact but had all of the required appliances...fridge, dishwasher, stove, microwave etc. There was a washer and a dryer right behind the kitchen. There was the master bedroom and bath with a walkout to a porch, a guest master and a room with 2 twin beds. Each bedroom had its' own bath. The resort is at the entrance to Hilton Head Island; right as you cross the bridge. Initially I was concerned about beach access etc but I need not have worried. We were in a great location on the bay. The resort had chairs overlooking the water and a dock for fishing or viewing. You could see dolphins swimming in the area near Pinckney Reserve! Along the dock was a fire pit where a smores party was held, picnic tables, grills, shuffleboard and bocci game areas, chair swings and rocking chairs. It was a beautiful peaceful area and we had lovely sunsets each night unless it rained. Sea birds frequented the area and an osprey had a nest in one of the trees across from our room. The resort was well manicured and activities were offered at various times of the day for both children and adults to enjoy. The closest beaches were Folley Field and Dreissen...parking was a bit less costly ( 50 cents an hour vs $1 an hour) at Dreissen and the beach there was great! The Bluewater had shuttles to take you back and forth to the beach and to Coliginy but we usually drove. One afternoon the clouds rolled in and never left so the indoor pool offered a great option for those who wanted to continue to enjoy the day....Several nice restaurants were just down the road, The Hudson house, The Chart house and The Boat House. One evening the resort offered a BBQ. The drive down to the tip of Hilton Head isn't bad and there is always the expressway for $1.25. We were very close to the Publix food market and several less expensive and child friendly restaurants. The location was excellent and really saved time when you had to leave the island! Free kayaking was available and it was so much fun!! You could just paddle around the bay area off the dock or go over and explore the shores of Pinckney Island and reserve. Bikes could be rented and delivered to the hotel on a daily or weekly basis. There is a very nice gym and a craft area for the kids. I really liked that the resort was on the small size so you were able to meet and interact with people in a very pleasant way and kids made friends easily. We had a slight problem with the shower in our guest master bedroom and they responded to it immediately. Unfortunately, it wasn't an easy fix but we had several other showers so it wasn't a problem. Pool towels were provided and free wifi was available. If you like to golf, that is also available....For those who love nature, peace and quiet away from the fray, then you will enjoy this resort. Easily one of the best we have been to on the island, and we have been to quite a few!

Room Tip: Ask for an end room...sometimes the kids running on the front balconies got loud, esp in the evenin...
