Tonight my family and I visited Ruan. The food was good - we ordered pad thai, yellow curry, basil chicken with tofu and green curry with beef, cucumber salad and a couple of drinks. At the end of the evening - when we got our bill - the total seemed out of line.
The overall total said 107.53. We all took turns in adding up the individual dishes one by one and the total was 84 and change. So we call the waitress. She added up everything and it still came to 84. Then she smiled and said that oh - we have 'mandatory gratuity' of 18% for a party of 4. I could not find the line item anywhere on my bill. Then on top of that they taxed the food and gratuity amounts together to arrive at 107.53.
One other waiter comes back and says 'we apologize' but we are not managers here and you should write a complaint about this. Funny! So here we are writing the complaint.
Be careful - they will not tell you about gratuity and tax you on it. At the end you end up paying twice for service and paying tax on it all. As if tax on food is not enough - now we are getting tax on 'mandatory gratuity'
