“Arthur Hills and RTJ courses”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

When we were there, the greens were aerated and fertilized (heavy) making putting very difficult. The courses were in great shape, except for the greens. The biggest problem is there was no discount for the greens being in the shape there were. With green fees quite steep at the Robert Trent Jones course, there should have been a discount of some sort

As standard procedure, you should have been notified before playing that the course had recently underwent aerification. Our aerification schedule is also posted on our website. “4 gals and 18 holes”

The George Fazio Golf Course is the "BEST"!!! Nice facility, extra friendly personnel and beautiful golf course. They also have a well-stocked Pro Shop. We will definitely go back soon. We will also recommend this golf course to all our friends and family.

“Good Courses Overall”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

I've played two of the courses at the Palmetto Dunes Complex. The Robert Trent Jones course is their bread and butter with a hole that backs up onto the Atlantic Ocean. The facility and staff were very pleasant overall. I played the course in August and it was still bouncing back from aeration but I thought it was in good shape otherwise and a decent value. If you can stand the heat I recommend playing in the afternoon for the reduced rate. I see a decent amount of complaints about the difficulty of this course, I play to a ten handicap and shot in the low 80's. If the course is too difficult move up a tee box. There are definitely a few tougher holes but for the most part they are straight forward, a few forced carries but nothing unreasonable. I would say this course is average in difficulty if you are a mid handicapper.

I have also played the Arthur Hills course, the price is not bad but the staff was not as friendly as the RTJ. The course has a fun layout, I actually think it is bit narrower than the RTJ course.

“Nice layouts but tough”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2013

We recently played the two of the three courses at Palmetto Dunes - The Arthur Hills and the RT Jones course. The Hill course was a nice layout through the Palmetto Dunes development and the beautiful channels the cover the area. We were greeted by the bag boy when we arrived and he took care of our clubs for us. We went inside to pay at the Pro shop and gain were greeted warmly by the worker inside. When I made the tee time two weeks before I was given a price of $85 a player. The guy was going to charge us $94 each and when I told him the price I got and who told me he honored the lower price. Good customer service. We proceeded to the practice area to get ready. One of their big selling points down there is air conditioned carts. Well they are a joke. the AC consists of a vacuum hose blowing cool air on our neck. In fact mine didn't work and when I told somebody about it they said most of them are broken anyway. The starter was a very nice gentleman who explained some of the rules and gave us a yardage book to help us out then sent us on our way. It's a nice track - very challenging for the average golfer but still fun. We had a nice time playing although I left a lot of balls in the water for the alligators.
The next course we played was the RT Jones "Ocean front" course. Again, the bag boy and club house attendants were nice. This round cost us $104 each and while it's a nice track it wasn't worth the 104 we payed. The starter was a very rude guy who didn't greet us when we drove up, instead he began lecturing us on pace of play telling us not to spend too much time looking for wayward balls. He then told us the ice machine was broken so the AC on the carts wouldn't work (no surprise) and that also there are no water stops along the way. We would have to buy from the cart girl when she passed. He then said the perhaps my wife should play from the Junior tees because she didn't look like she would be able to keep up. My wife was going to punch him in the mouth right about then (she's a 15 handicap). When we asked about a yardage book or something to with hole descriptions he said we should have bought one in the pro shop and that now we were just going to have to figure it out as we went along. So we were told how important pace of play was yet we have no idea how each hole is laid out?? It was very hot when we played here and with no water stops it was brutal and just dangerous for people not to be able to get a drink every few holes. We saw the cart girl twice on the front (one time it was the 9th hole with the halfway house in view) and once on the back nine. ALSO, they really shouldn't call this an oceanfront course. ONE hole plays to the ocean and that's the only time you see it. All in all, Arthur HIlls course was fun, the RT Jones course was tougher but the experience sucked and I will never play there again. There are a lot of cheaper courses on the island that are just as nice. DO YOUR RESEARCH!!

Thank you for your feedback about your round of golf on the Robert Trent Jones Oceanfront course. We apologize that the AC unit on your cart did not meet your expectations and that the ice machine was down at Jones when you played. Most people do find that the AC units provide some relief from the heat so we have them as a courtesy for those who wish to use them. We also apologize that the starter did not provide you with exceptional customer service. We do strive to exceed the expectations of every guest and will pass your comments along to our staff. The starter should have suggested that we have a free golf app available for download if you have a smartphone in the event that you didn't have a yardage book. The golf app does provide a flyover and description for each hole. We will address these issues with our staff. Thank you for playing at Palmetto Dunes and we hope that you will return.
