“Consistently Superb Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012

I have stayed in this hotel several dozen times as I travel to Greenville, SC on a monthly basis. This hotel is the best hotel in Greenville without exception. The atmosphere is charming and inviting and the staff is willing to bend over backwards to ensure that your stay is tailored to meet your needs & the needs of those traveling with you. They just recently upgraded the rooms & lobby with newer & additional furniture and just when I thought it couldn't get and better, it did.

With each visit I feel as if I'm at my home away from home thanks to the warm welcomes from Will at the front desk and the food & beverage manager who's name escapes me at the moment. As any traveler knows all to well, feeling recognized and welcome is important when your traveling and the staff at this hotel does both.

There's really no tips or tricks I have to offer, because you don't need any to enjoy your stay at the top notch Westin hotel.

Best.
Drew J Marston

In a variety of roles in community organizations, I have housed guests, held small and very large receptions here, and routinely use the delightful Spoonbread Restaurant for business lunches. The staff is incredibly accommodating, helpful, and super responsive. The historic property is one of the charming, iconic (although with an abundance of modern accouterments) locations in downtown Greenville and serves as one of the community anchors.

My wife and I spent 2 nights at the Westin Poinsett after our wedding. We had great service the entire weekend. We were greeted with friendly, prompt service. Once we got to our rooms we had chocolate dipped strawberries waiting on us. The next morning we ate breakfast in their restaurant and we're blown away with how delicious the food was. Everything about our weekend was great. We couldn't have asked for better.

Room Tip: we had a corner suite which was very spacious.

My husband and I went to Greenville for a quick get-away and wanted to stay near the heart of the downtown area so we would be convenient to everything. The Westin fit the bill perfectly, The front desk staff was so attentive and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The lobby is beautiful and very true to the 1920's built history of the building. Our room was very small (which when staying in older buildings in a "downtown" area is expected, but for a Westin, the furnishings were a bit worn. The room was clean but the cracks in the bathroom vanity left a less than stellar impression. The bed was super comfortable! Be warned: If you are staying in the part of the hotel with views of the main street, prepare for a VERY LOUD evening. We had turned in a bit early after exploring the falls park (a must see!) and doing some shopping and dining, and around 12 PM the yelling from the bar-goers on the streets below started. It continued relentlessly until almost 3 AM and it was impossible for us to sleep through. During this time also a wedding reception in the building must have finished up as we heard a stampede going down the hallway and were then privy to the detailed/drunken argument of the next door guests rehashing events of the evening. Just as we were about to call the front desk to ask for someone to come quieten down the neighbors, they gave it up. Also, the older windows in our room rattled loudly every time anyone nearby opened or closed a door. Overall though, the hotel was beautiful and in a great location. The dining room is a very nice place to eat breakfast and the Sunday brunch was top-notch with excellent service. After walking around a bit, I would probably try the Hampton Inn adjacent to the Falls park next time as I don't think the noise would be as much of a concern for this light sleeper. You may be able to request a room further back from the action as well. It is a lovely place and worth a try if you like historic buildings. Also, the parking is in the adjacent deck and runs about $6 per day which is fairly reasonable for the area. If you are accustomed to staying at 4 and 5 star hotels and many Westins, this may leave you a bit disappointed.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room away from the street noise if you are a light sleeper.

The Westin Poinsett is a classic old style downtown hotel, but it has been updated to provide the refinement you would expect from a Westin property. The furniture, carpet, windows, and bathrooms are all up to date. The beds are as heavenly as they are named! The restaurants and the staff are excellent as well. Location is perfect, right on the charming main street of Greenville, but not noisy at all. It is hard to be disappointed with the Westin Poinsett.

We spent a weekend at the property. We were excited to sleep on a Heavenly bed but unfortunately our mattress had a large lump towards the end. After reporting it the first day, we just dealt with it. At check out when I inquired about the mattress situation; the front desk employee immediately apologized and credited us back for one of the nights! We hadn't even asked! That's great service! We enjoyed the historical qualities of the building. The lobby bar area, including a pianist, felt like something from the past. Very pretty and relaxing. The location is great to walk out and enjoy Main st. , a beautiful park with waterfalls and nice surroundings.

My husband and I received a gift certificate to stay at The Westin. Wow! It turned out to be our best gift. We are waiting to do our Honeymoon due to work schedules, so this was a much needed stay. We liked it so much we wound up booking for Sunday night too. The staff we encountered were fantastic. The breakfast buffet was excellent. We had a quiet room, but it was still elegant and updated. The area around the hotel was perfect for our day time needs. I have been downtown Greenville many times in my life, but I will make it a point to book an overnight stay the next time I can do so. Thanks to all the staff!

Room Tip: Quiet room was in the back of the hotel
