“Georgetown Rice Museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2012

The museum is wonderful but the real treasure is their museum shop with wonderful one of the kind paintings, jewelry, sweet grass baskets, etc., etc. The best place to find that one of a kind gift. Jim, the curator, has a special talent in finding all these wonderful things. Do not miss this wonderful treasure in Georgetown

“Funky, casual, definitely educational, reasonable, and worth it; beware steps”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2012

The Rice Museum is a great primer for learning about Lowcountry rice plantation culture, and is appropriate for all ages. Past of the tour is guided by a volunteer, part is a sit-and-watch dated video, and part is on your own. The volunteer may talk a lot, especially if others ask questions, but you can direct your attention instead to the quaint-but-informative dioramas in the old bell tower part of the tour. (BTW, the bell tower is about 20 steps, no elevator, to the display floor.) Then you take an elevator in adjacent building to watch video and spend time in former store, now museum, of artifacts, culture, resurrected ship from local river. Gift shop is full of household goods you won't need, but also sells local rice varieties now available everywhere else. Plan on two hours for this museum in total.

Small museum with informative exhibits. Worth a visit when in the Myrtle Beach/Charleston, SC area. Also check out Kaminski House, Sweeties, Huntington Beach State Park, and Brookgreen Gardens.

“Educational”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2011

Really enjoyed this museum. Learned so much about the rice plantations in SC and how they supported the economy. Great displays...great tour guides. Very informative video. Loved seeing the video telling about how the rice plantations operated. Great place for whole family.

“Wonderful little museum.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2011

Very informative guided tour of the Rice Museum that included the displays upstairs in the town clock and also the annex in the building next door. They have the Browns Ferry boat on the second floor with artefacts that were found when they raised the boat in the 1970's.
