Stayed at Comfort Inn Carowinds June 2-5, 2008. This is an excellent middle of the road hotel. The rooms were neat, comfortable, two comfortable double beds with nice 2 pillows per bed. Fridge and microwave in room. We absolutely had no problems. We have timeshares and are used to staying at 5 star resorts, so I was skeptical of this hotel. I'm glad I went ahead and booked. This is as good as any Best Western we've stayed at.

We were across the street from Carowinds which is like staying across the street from Disneyworld with the parking lot in between.

Amenities in addition to a nice comfortable room were a nice clean pool, free continental breakfast with pastires, belgium waffles, cereal, boiled eggs, milk, juice, and goumet coffee.

It is located in a safe part of town. Never felt threatened. The staff were friendly and courteous. Peggy who is the sales director was very nice and helpful.

The purpose of our visit was to catch a flight out of Charlotte, but combined a few days with the amusement park. The park was absolutely great. No waiting in lines yay!! My oldest daughter has been to Six Flags in Arlington, TX, and says this park is just as good as Six Flags. It was nice and clean, great rides. The best was Afterburn!!

Great water park also which is connected to the theme park. Totally unlike Disney where you have to catch a bus or monorail to get from park to park. The parks just flow into each other here.

There is a Wendy's right next to the hotel. A Papa Pina's Italian restaurant which is just ok. It has a bar if you just want to pick up a drink. There is some kind of Mexican mall right beside it. Two miles down the road is an upscale mall and lots of restaurants. Ate at SaltGrass which is excellent steaks. Cracker Barrel is one block away.

Get back on 77 North and take Exit 6B to Charlotte Airport which is about a 15 minute drive at 8am morning rush traffic! Not a bad drive.

If we come back to Charlotte, we will stay here again as I have read on this web site that a lot of the airport hotels have a lot of car break-ins. This hotel was well lit and I felt very safe.

Seemingly everything else reasonably priced in town was sold out (presumably for NASCAR). I paid $100 for this room and continue to be reminded why I only stay at Marriotts and Hiltons. Our room was just NASTY. It smelled of urine, it was noisy (right across from the second floor elevator and of course that meant party noises all night), and the air conditioner fan was loose. To make matters worse, the bed was cheap and the mattress and box springs slid off each other. Lesson learned.

Management response from ComfortInnCarowinds, Public Relations Manager
(Management representative)
May 29, 2008

Attention: Why would anyone stay in a room that smelled of urine? Why would anyone stay in a room that they weren't statisifed with? My message to all prospective clients: check out your room when traveling. If you wish to be 100 % satisfied make sure you walk to the room and inspect it. This is for every chain, in every country. Most hotels will refund your money if you are not 100 % satisfied BEFORE you spend the night there.

We appreciate your business.

When I got to the hotel, we saw the beautiful lobby. I checked out

the rooms before we booked them. The pillows were soft, they

had televisions and a refrigerator. Not only that, but I could walk

to Carowinds from the hotel! It was the best hotel I've been to

by far. A++++++

We just returned from a weekend trip to Carowinds. We chose the Comfort Inn because of it's location directly across from the park. They told us we could walk from there but in reality the main entrance is still about a mile away. While this may be walkable, in 90 degree heat across a parking lot it's pretty unpleasant. I can't imagine doing it with small children in tow. The hotel itself was pretty grungy. The room was dark, and the bathroom bordered on being dirty. I'm sure it was cleaned that day but there were stains and mildew. Yuck!! Our biggest complaint was that for some reason they decided to plop us down right in the middle of someone else's family reunion. Basically every room on our floor was booked by this group of people except for us. To top it off, our room was directly beside their hospitality suite. As a result, we were kept awake all night long by people in the suite and the hallway. This was not the group's fault, I'm sure they thought they had the whole floor. I just wonder who in the reservation department thought it was a good idea to put us in the middle of it.
Overall, this was just a bad experience. If we return to Carowinds (which we probably WILL), we will stay somewhere else for sure.

Once again, Comfort Inn comes through for us.

We stayed at this hotel while conducting business in the Rock Hill area. Parts of the front canopy was falling off and the stairwell area did not look too attractive, but the room itself was nice. It's located in a heavy commercial area next to an outlet mall and Carowinds, but it's far enough away so that sounds from the park hardly intrude.

Our room (#101) was very clean and well-kept. The rooms, or at least some of them, were supposedly renovated last year. The rooms now have micro-fridge and wireless internet. The remote for the TV didn't work and the staff had to replace it with an operable one. Other than that, though, we didn't run into any problems. There's no need to worry about cold shower water with no pressure here; the water here comes out full force and it's almost too hot. The beds were comfortable and we slept well.

The lobby isn't that nice- or big- and most of it is closed except for breakfast, which is held in a sunroom off the lobby. It's hardly fancy, but for $67 a night, that's perfectly fine. This hotel used to be one of Choice Hotel's top performers in the mid- 90's. Though not up to that level now, it's still a pretty good place to stay.
