“NO PLAYGROUND”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013

Everything we ready up on said there was a playground and jumping pillow. For one there wasn't a playground (which is why we decided to stay there). Very disappointing to a 4 year old. Second the jumping pillow had a rip and wasn't useable. When we checked in we had to wait a good half hour once checked in to even get to our site. Overall this was not a good KOA and I will no be back. There wasn't any fire pits either. Unless you bring everything but the kitchen sink with you don't stay.

We picked a KOA for there FULl service facility and reputation.
Very disappointed ,,,,Sites are way to close ,Wifi is advertised but we could never get on line.
bathrooms have code locks but the bathroom outdoor areas have no lights so you can't see to program code to open door.
there were 4 showers ,2 out of order , and one with broken shower head and no hot water.

It was memorial day weekend (busy camping holiday) the office was closed all weekend, we could not complain or get help.
Sign on door said go to gas station to check in ..We went there for wifi explanation.
The girl working there said she knows nothing and can just check in new guests.
Fort mills has false advertising on the wifi and we would never stay there again,we wanted our money refunded but three was no one there.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else

This was the first time that we had stayed at a KOA park. It was very disappointing, we were under the impression that KOA are a high end park, as reflected by their price. We had to register at a gas station outside the park. The attendant took us to our site. The park was not busy at all and there were lots of open sites. There are sites with nice level concrete pads and we were put on a very wet dirt site, there were other RVs there that were on the wet sites also. We are not sure what they are saving the concrete pad sites for. We had four concrete pads on either side of us that remained open all night.
The park was quite, except for the noise from the Charlotte airport but there was hardly anyone in the park also. The park looks like nothing has been done to keep it nice looking. The dirt roads are full of large holes and the overall appearance is shabby looking.
This not we expected from a KOA park. We would not stay there again.

The check-in office is a gas station on a busy, noisy road. For reasons unknown, we were assigned a gravel site that was so out-of-level that our hydraulic leveling jacks could not fully compensate. Meanwhile nearby level, paved sites remained unoccupied. The sewer connection was hidden an inch underground and covered with dirt and leaves. We were not able to find it until one of their maintenance personnel dug it up as we were about to depart. Although we paid for full hook-ups, we ultimately used their dump station to empty our waste tanks. For travelers on I-85 this campground is 32 miles round-trip out-of-the way but is near I-77. They have a pool (closed for the winter), playground, outdoor pavilion, fenced dog exercise area and cabins for rent. Their sites are closely spaced and the whole place looked somewhat run-down. For what we paid, we expected better.

We stayed here in a Class A Motorhome.

We have visited several times over the years, and while not the best it was acceptable with a pool and close to charlotte. This will be our last though. We arrived at 8p and given a site in the dark with no escort, my wife had to walk in front to find our spot. We setup and then when going to switch to shore power found we were on a 30amp instead of the 50 we had reservations for. After talking to the attendants at the service station he gave us a map to look for a site we thought we might fit in the long term side. I was told the pull through I had paid for was being held by the owner Kelly. They allowed us on one of her spots for the night after two hours in the park we were finally on a spot for the night. The next morning we were moved to a different site (our 3rd in less than 24hrs). The rest of our 3 nights were fine, but the entrance is just dirt and everything is covered in dust.I understand the construction mess but something should be done to control the dust and dirt. With 100k coaches moving in and out the last you expect is to have to wash it after just pulling through the gate. Even some gravel would solve the problem. It's a shame the place just doesn't seem maintained. Our concrete pad was at least 10 inches off level from end to end, makes you wonder why they bothered. Save your self the trouble, Carowinds is just a few miles up the road and you will save yourself the disappointment.

We stayed here as we toured the NASCAR hall of fame. Alot of traffic and the KOA store is also a hangout for large numbers of loud drunks at night. The pool was very nice and refreshing. New supermarket under construction will be nice when finished. Easy on/off of I77.

We spent four nights at this KOA, traveling in a motorhome with slides. We’ve stayed at this KOA the past and, until now, considered it an average KOA in a convenient location. However, our latest stay was extremely disappointing.

The pros are: (1) near Carrowinds amusement park; (2) less than 30-minutes from downtown Charlotte; (3) near I-77; (4) free Wi-Fi and cable and (5) a Valero station, selling gas and diesel, located at the entrance to the KOA. (The diesel is pricey, though.)

The cons—which far outweigh the pros—are: (1) inescapable construction noise and mess. The KOA is caught up in a large, supermarket construction project next door where the KOA entrance is being completely re-worked and merged with one of the supermarket entrance/exit areas. You have to dodge construction equipment to get to-and-from some of the campsites. The construction equipment runs all day and is very noisy. The pool is in the midst of the construction area. This is not at all family-friendly. If it rains, there is red clay mud everywhere. If it doesn’t rain, there is red clay dust everywhere. Signs say the supermarket will be completed in “late 2012” so there is no near-term relief in sight. (2) KOA isn’t enforcing their own rules about quiet hours and the maximum number of vehicles and campers per site. There was a motorhome with a large trailer, three pickup trucks and a 4-wheel ATV parked on the site next to us. The people staying there came in late (i.e., after 11 PM on a week night), made lots of noise slamming vehicle and storage compartment doors, and re-arranging vehicles. Then, they partially blocked the street with equipment taken out of the storage trailer they were towing.

Overall, I can’t recommend this KOA.
