Spent a long weekend in Folly for a friend's 40th birthday April 25-29, and we were looking for a low-key, casual place to eat our first night there. It's been a few years since I've been to Folly, so I made some notes from Trip Advisor about the best places to eat/hang out. The Surf Bar sounded like what we were looking for on a Thursday night. It's just off Center St, definitely a hole-in-the wall kind of place you'd expect the locals frequent. Our waitress was awesome...she came over as soon as we were seated, and she was super friendly. She checked on us often for drinks, answered all of our questions, made confident recommendations about the food and shared with us how differeend sauces/items were prepared. The menu is mostly limited to "bar food"...wings, burgers, sandwiches, etc. but they did have several daily specials posted. Everything we had was great, but the chicken and steak Phillies were the best! Our friend liked Surf Bar so much, he got our group to come here for dinner the night of his actual birthday! Again, it's nothing fancy...it's a small, casual place with dim lighting where you can watch sports, bring your dog with you on the covered patio area, and just hang out. The drink prices are reasonable, nice selection of beers, friendly staff, good food for the money,,,an over-all laidback atmosphere, which is what most people want and expect at Folly Beach!
