Heard from a couple of people that this was the place to eat when in Florence, and we love cajun food, so when on this visit we decided we just had to give it a try and were not disappointed.
Atmosphere is way cool, service excellent, menu has good variety.
I decided to try the raved about shrimp & grits and they did not disappoint, not at all. Was very apprehensive about fried shrimp on this meal since had always had broiled/grilled/etc on my s&g, but decided to go with it their way and was very pleasantly surprised, hey, was darned good. Like pretty much every restaurant I've ever tried, Redbone obviously adds cream to their grits, something of which I'm completely not a fan, but, they pulled it off pretty good, for while I still prefer mine straight, no cream or butter (just cheese), I found these to be pretty darned tasty. Was pretty hungry so hesitated to order the lunch portion but did, and again, was glad I did, for along with the bread they served as an appetizer, it was just right.
Speaking of bread, OMG! Honey wheat + fluffy, whipped honey butter, produced a combined flavor that was seriously the best I've ever had. Tried 'em separately to figure out where the yumsterness was coming from, did that 2 or 3 times even, and still couldn't for the life of me, but when combined, fuggheddaboudit! And everybody at our table agreed, too.
In anticipation of writing this review, and because I know I myself occasionally scour reviews to see what's good (and what's not), I made a point to note what everyone had and their reviews, and all agreed their meals were excellent. They were: blackened grilled shrimp, grilled veggies, chopped salad w/chicken, Redbone hot club w/fries, and the frogmore (sp?) dog. I tasted the wife's blackened shrimp and grilled veggies and agreed, very, very good. Veggies were a tad buttery for my liking, but cooked perfectly and no less tasty. The daughter's fries were yumster as well.
That's it folks, if you've not yet tried 'em, I highly suggest it, definitely worth the reviews!
